I've posed this question from time to time, on the various forums here, and am tossing it out again.
Does anyone have both hypertension (high blood pressure) and anxiety (specifically GAD), and have their doctors juggle the medications to treat both, with the awareness that one can affect the other?

I don't have hypertension -- tend to very low BP -- but my pdoc used propranalol to treat my anxiety. Don't know if that information helps any, but it was a great med for me, while it lasted. Could be one med could hit on both cylinders?

In my case, just quieting the heart doesn't quiet the mind, so it may be the mind agitating the heart.
It may be that the cause of your anxiety was quieted by queiting the heart?
On other health forums I've seen people needing both an anti-hypertensive and an anti-anxiety agent, and believe that to be my situation.

MAOI's are the best AD's for anxiety and they also lower your blood pressure significantly. I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for or not but they are great meds.

It seems that in my general reading, that MAOI's are problematic. If there is a single med that both stops anxiety and lowers blood pressure, with no significant side effects, then that would be wonderful.
This is the end of the thread.
