Hi Everyone,
I had my wisdom teeth out last Tues. I have pain meds that take care of bone and muscle pains, but my gums itch and burn like crazy. The oral surgeon doesn't want me putting Anbesol or anything like that on the gums because he wants to keep the area clean while it heals shut. There's also a concern about blood clots under the sutures - they can't be disturbed, because they provide protection for the jawbone while the gums heal. I guess Anbesol could dissolve the clots. But I was wondering if anyone else who's had this done found some way to lessen this infernal itching and burning without messing with the clots or the sutures. I've tried various fruit drinks, water, even the special mouthwash they gave me to keep the area clean. Nothing works.
What I'd really like to do is stick a back scratcher in my mouth and just rake the hell out of my gums. Unfortunately I can't do that, much as I want to.
It's driving me crazy!!!
Let me rephrase that: it's driving me MORE crazy !!!
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks to all for taking the time to read this,

In reply to Wisdom teeth out, need something for hurting gums, posted by Reggie BoStar on February 3, 2007, at 18:16:21
get a clove, wrap it in a little clean cotton, and place it next to the gum, between gum and cheek, and leave there.
It works small miracles.. seriously! I have clove oil which I rub on, but I wouldn't use this on broken skin.
I feel for you.. having my wisdom teeth out was a horrible experience for me..
