When I look at my profile in the mirror and view myself swallowing from the side, the skin under my neck stretches a LOT and the area right where my neck meets my chin seems to bulge. For a brief moment it almost becomes a straight line from my chin (not a weak chin, either) to my adam's apple. It looks as though a gland in my neck is unlarged, but it only "appears" when I swallow.
It doesn't matter if I'm swallowing water or food or just air. I don't think it's an enlarged thyroid because if I'm correct that's located lower on the neck. When I palpate this area I haven't noticed any unusual lumps. I am, however, often slightly congested for reasons unknown, and this can make swallowing a little harder.
I'm a slim woman of 30. Should I be concerned? Other than loose skin due to aging (and since most people think I look MUCH younger than my age I'm wondering how this could be possible) why would my neck bulge where it meets my chin when I swallow? I feel dumb going to the doctor for this, and I also don't have insurance...

Could it be that it has always been like this, and you are just noticing it for the first time?
Absent a low-grade fever, I wouldn't make a special trip to the doctor. Mention it if you have to go for any other reason, though, just for peace of mind.
