Hi,
This is the first time i am posting here.
I have had diarrhea, ever since an unsuccessful
benzo withdrawal attempt. It was 7 yrs. ago
approx. It was very bad during the w/d and
as Dr. Ashton would predict it may very well
be a protracted syndrome. But i don't know the cause; maybe IBS, maybe
personal tooth problems, maybe diet, maybe the
medications i'm taking. But the timing is significant because i was never like this before
the w/d attempt. So, now it is like clockwork right after I take my Synthroid dose in the morning. (i take Synth., Lithium, and clonazepam-- steady doses for about 20 yrs. now).
I would like to take something to stop it, because it has prevented me from living a normal life. My dr. suggested drop the coffee (one cup a day) but that has not done anything. I have tried Pectoate and fibre- they help a bit. Still, it seem constant first thing in the morning, and sometimes when i eat sugar or lactate stuff, or if i am upset.
Any suggestions would be greatly welcome.

I attribute the diarrhea I have to Lithium. But if I were you, I'd see your doctor to check it out.
It's annoying, though, eh? Sorry you're suffering with it.

> ggThank you for your reply gg - i guess you take lithium too. I can't change lithium, and my dr.
does not think it is wise to lower the dose. Also, he thinks that once a day in the early part of the day is not a health hazard. So, basically, i am just looking for an over-the-counter or something.Tx

My dr. doesn't think the problem is the lithium;
and it never was before the benzo debacle; also
it occurs 99% of the time after the Synthroid.
It's IBS. I'm going to look up Wikipedia on it.tx

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=55129Dr. Ohhira's probiotic strain is another brand that has that bifidus infantis, but it's fairly pricey: http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=3620&at=0 But at least it doesn't have crap like blue dye #2 like Align does.
I don't suffer from diarrhea but find probiotics helpful with gas, bloating and a general bowel disruption feeling. I would be taking Dr. Ohhira's brand if it wasn't so expensive.

Thanks JL,
I'd like to try probiotics-- are they over-the-counter? I read on Wikipedia that
opiates are used or alkaloids- wouldn't that be wonderful, but i bet it's the last choice if you ask a dr.Squiggles

I notice that when I use it regularly, that my bowel movements are not prone to becoming "d" like, nor constipated. It helps out all over. You can get this brand at health food stores. If you aren't treating a yeast infection, I'd use the maintenance dosage.
It really does provide a great deal of relief.
