I have recently been told that I was bipolar. I saw a psychologist that told me that I fit into the bipolar spectrum disorder. He referred me to an ARNP who diagnosised me as bipolar with rapid cycling. I don't believe either of them, and I feel like it's some sort of ploy to make more money. They both want me to be on medications. I really want another opinion but I don't have insurance and I don't know where to go. I do have really bad anxiety that is on and off. I have really bad depression but I haven't felt really euphoric in over three years. As for audio halluciations, I haven't had those in 8 years. I feel like I've gotten better, not worse. It does seem that everytime I think I'm better I have some sort of anxiety or depression episode. I feel frustrated. I want to leave the state, the country. Do something different because I feel so bored, but then I don't want to do anything at all. I have no motivation. Do other people who are bipolar feel this way? I'm just trying to understand the diagnosis, and see if applies to me and figure out where I should go from here.

Welcome to babble. You'll find lots of support here.
How long did you see the psycholigist who diagnosed you and how long did you see the ARNP? Perhaps they aren't trying to make money off of you but trying to get your moods on an even keel, so you'll feel and function better.
For me, when I was diagnosed as bipolar, it was a relief...there was a name for an illness I suffered from for a long time. Having said that, it takes patience and trust in your doctors to help you find the right meds or combo of meds to work for you.
I only had one mania...a prolonged one...it's been depression that has now become my biggest problem.
If you are in doubt ask your psych lots of questions as to how he/she came to that diagnosis. If you are bipolar, you'll feel a lot better getting the correct treatment.

I didn't see the psychologist for very long, and he was the one who referred me to the ANRP. I only saw her once. That's what she does for a living. Meets with people once and then prescribes medication. She specializes in working with people who have anxiety, bipolar, and ADHD. She said I was obvious. I've recently done some research on bipolar 2 and that sounds kind of like me. I'm just confused. I don't know where to go to get a second opinion. I feel that I had more severe mood swings when I was young, but who doesn't? And now I feel like I've evened out. I feel boring and apathetic about everything. What kind of bipolar do you have?

I mean I've seen the ARNP a few times now, but she diagnosed me as bipolar rapid cycling the first time I saw her. It seems like everything I say or do further proves their theories. It's like they have no doubts but they aren't really paying attention you know what I mean?
