Thoughts about what to tell and when

Posted by doxogenic boy on August 14, 2009, at 16:09:06

Hello.
This is my first post; I have thought about posting on dr-bob.org for several years, and now, finally I am here. I have found a lot of useful information on this site, that I have shown to my psychiatrist.

I have problems with indecisiveness. I have thought about what I would like to post many times (also before I registered here), but it is difficult to select a little bit of my experiences to share and questions to ask.

My writings (I am not an author, though, and English is just my second language) often become circumstantial and detailed. This makes it hard and time-consuming to write, both in public, like this, and via e-mail.

I feel somehow I have to explain everything extensively, so that no one misunderstands and I am afraid someone would think I am lying if I don't give the whole picture all the time. But it is always more one could have said and more details go give. Have any of you such problems?

welcome--I thought your e-mail was clear and well-written, and to the point. I have trouble coming up with the exact question I want to ask. So I circle around and around. I've found with practice that the clearer I make my thread title, usually the more focused (and helpful) the response.

Don't worry, we're a friendly bunch--jump in!

Thank you!
I have often a problem with giving a good answer or an answer at all when I get response, probably related to my negative self-image.

Hey, no problem--I have the same sort of issues regarding posting, but have been gaining some confidence as time goes on--I've been here since mid-April, I think--and now I think I post too much!

What boards do you frequent? I'm mostly at meds, though have started looking around at social and admin.

I look forward to hearing more form you, if you care to.

Do you know about babble-mail? Just in case you don't. if you see a poster's name in blue, like mine, on the left hand side of a post you can send them an e-mail through babble that does not get posted to the entire board, and as far as I know, is not searchable by any web means.

Hope you are well.

Best Regards,

fb

Even though it takes time, I communicate best in writing. If I meet new people personally, I find it very difficult coming up with anything to say, unless the other person is good at starting conversations and takes contact with me. When there is a party, and no one talks to me, I remain alone the whole party.

I am mostly at the medication-board, too, but I have only started one thread there until now.

Thank you!

I normally behave with reserve until I know people very well, but I don't want it to be like that. And if there is something unexpected from me, it can be my bad English; maybe I say something bad, but I didn't mean to. Then I may have mistaken (the definition of) a word for another.

Yes, I know about babble-mail and I have thought about contacting someone later when I hopefully become more confident. Thanks for reminding me!

I hope you are well, too!

If find we may have been conditioned to tell everything. I ran my life that way for a long time - giving people the utmost in detail to appear intelligent and to be super thorough (which I now know is a little psychotic part of my personality). There is no need to provide all the information all of the time when discussing anything in life. If I find pressured to do so, I might say to the person I am having a conversation with, "Why do you ask"? I feel in general people are way too nosy, and maybe that makes you feel pressured to be so detailed. Just hang back a little bit - try it, and see if it works for you. Good luck.
