Oh...

WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!

I missed you :-)

I have been getting busy on the politics board...
(and other boards too)

I have been reading about the war...
About trade sanctions...
About how many children died in Iraq as 'collateral damage' from trade sanctions (couldn't get drinkable water)...
(and it is unlawful to impose trade sanctions to punish the public to try and get saddam to stoppit)
About how many less people died in the trade centre / pentagon bombings
as 'collateral damage' from protesting about trade sanctions that resulted in the deaths of so very many Iraq children...
About how WMD and 'imminant threat' was the lawful justification for the war...
About how Blair and Bush knew there was no 'imminant threat' which seems to leave the war as...
An unlawful act of agression.
About how the oil money etc is being held by the reserve bank in the US for 'safe keeping'
About how 8 million or billion or whatever has 'gone missing'
About the contracts that have been awarded to the very large companies (with white house connections)
About how the laws have been changing in Iraq...
Iraq people have had the right to keep seeds to plant in the next year for 10,000 years now...
Now they aren't allowed to do that anymore. They have to purchase new seeds off the big companies in the US...
Surely we aren't still kidding ourselves...
Its an economic take-over
No way around that...
The US is still in Iraq because they still have work to do in making the country dependent economically on the US.
The big businesses in the US will be making a killing
The profits of the oil and the food and of most things produced in Iraq will go to them...
And what does the average Iraq citizen have to gain?????
Yeah, they wanted Saddam out - because of his terrorising etc...
But only to be replaced with the US military????
Jeepers... Must be hard to know which is worse from the POV of a citizen in Iraq...

People 'going missing' to be detained and tortured...
A TV show being screened in Iraq (funded by fox) where prisoners with black eyes and so on 'confess their sins' to the camera.

Unbelievable...

Unbelievable...

Hi alex,

Can you point me to where I could read about this:

>>Iraq people have had the right to keep seeds to plant in the next year for 10,000 years now...
Now they aren't allowed to do that anymore. They have to purchase new seeds off the big companies in the US...

and also this....

>> A TV show being screened in Iraq (funded by fox) where prisoners with black eyes and so on 'confess their sins' to the camera.

I mean, obviously....if it's fairly easily available to me... if you read about it online. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. - 10Der

No problemo, I shall find them now.
I appreciate that news sources can be somewhat unreliable...
But I shall find the source, I shall find the source...

:-)

Okay, so the sources would seem fairly reliable to me...

On seeds (and economic takeover more generally)

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/justify/2005/0812sadness.htm

The TV show:
(I apologise – it doesn’t mention Fox, it mentions a “US contractor”)

http://www.globalpolicy.org/empire/un/2005/0607kleinconsent.htm

I will say that my information has been coming from 'global policy forum' in general. I find it to be a fairly terrific website...

Here is their mission statement:

>Global Policy Forum’s mission is to monitor policy making at the United Nations, promote accountability of global decisions, educate and mobilize for global citizen participation, and advocate on vital issues of international peace and justice.

>GPF responds to a globalizing world, where officials, diplomats and corporate leaders take important policy decisions affecting all humanity, with little democratic oversight and accountability. GPF addresses this democratic deficit by monitoring the policy process, informing the public, analyzing the issues, and urging citizen action. GPF focuses on the United Nations – the most inclusive international institution, offering the best hope for a humane and sustainable future.

>Basic Facts

>GPF is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, with consultative status at the UN. Founded in 1993 by an international group of concerned citizens, GPF works with partners around the world to strengthen international law and create a more equitable and sustainable global society. GPF uses a holistic approach, linking peace and security with economic justice and human development, and we place a heavy emphasis on networking to build broad coalitions for research, action and advocacy. We put our energy into well-focused and unique programs in which GPF has a special analytical and organizational edge. GPF’s main office is strategically located across the street from UN headquarters in New York. GPF also has a European office, located in Bonn, Germany.

Thankyou Alex. Since I got blocked last time for saying that our current leaders aren't the best I'm sitting here looking for words. I suppose the world works on cycles of revenge, and the spirit of the last 5 years is revenge for something else. How come public life is like this when people are reasonable enough to each other in ordinary life? (It's a stupid question, right?) Anyway, what's so odd about this? Weren't we taught at school, I was, that the proper response to the world was fear and pity? It's odd that the Iraq/politics thing is looking so transparent.

yeah it can be hard.

>I suppose the world works on cycles of revenge, and the spirit of the last 5 years is revenge for something else. How come public life is like this when people are reasonable enough to each other in ordinary life? (It's a stupid question, right?)

well... some people are reasonable enough to each other. but... i think there is a similar 'drama triangle' operating in everyday life ;-)

>Anyway, what's so odd about this? Weren't we taught at school, I was, that the proper response to the world was fear and pity?

lol! yeah, i think thats pretty much the message that i took too. i think a lot depends on how the story is told... how the story is told. it takes a bit of 'radical interpretation / translation' for the 'drama triangle' / cycle of revenge to be made apparant. and who is telling the story... yes. well.

>It's odd that the Iraq/politics thing is looking so transparent.

from where we stand.
but from where other people stand it is transparant towards a different conclusion.

have you looked at the stats?
how many americans (surveyed) believed saddam had al queda (can't spell) affiliations?
how many americans (surveyed) believed saddam had WMD?
how many americans (surveyed) believed they found saddam with WMD?
how many americans (surveyed) had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER why on earth anybody would want to bomb the world trade centre?
how many americans (surveyed) believe the majority of iraqui citizens want the us troops to remain in iraq?

and so on and so forth...

i found this article...

it said that the majority of the media are owned by 6 corporations. and thats the 'reliable sources'. thats your 6pm type news sources. your paper. thats the messages that you get... and given that... given that... is it any wonder?

i feel a little frightened.

what i feel afraid of too...
is that currently New Zealand have some land in Antartica. We send people over there to study it. Study the wildlife. Effects of global warming. etc etc.

2024 our land claim comes up for grabs again...

there is oil over there.

i wonder what...
rationale will be offered
for the invasion of antartica

:-(

we can't do much

Hey Alex, but you're talking about Murdochland (we make the news, we decide what it is, we determine reality). Most of the world isn't in it, and the cycles of revenge work with a longish historical memory (where a historical memory exists). At the centre it's all culture wars and the distribution of the goodies, but further out they have reason to remember longer.
