Hi Jay,
I thank you for making the film. I just wanted to caution others that it contains images from the war in Iraq, which I found triggering. I mean this in no sense to be pejorative. I'm kind of sensitive to this type of thing. I guess I'd rather be sensitive than desensitized, though.

Keep up the work.

My idea of hell is that the west wage its resource and other wars and no one cares; they just go shopping.

Thanks.

I am sorry Llurpsie...I honestly meant to put in a *warning* for the images as some are disturbing.
I usually write my posts in wordpad before and copy to here, and I forgot to add the *triggers* warning. My apologies to you and anybody else who I forgot to address.

Thank you for the comments too. This was a very tough thing to make. Going out and finding these pictures is heartbreaking, and I tried to include the losses on all sides of the war. Basically, my intended message was "please....some respect for human life" for all sides.

Thanks...
Jay

Jay yes it has triggers but my Son was blinded in Desert Storm and working now in DC on congressional committess to stop the madness and visits still the troops wounded. I think you did a wonderful job. Wish the pics I have from the amputees and my Son had been able to be posted but digital was not around then. They are horrific and hidden from the rest of the World at the time. No one knew of the tragedies that happened over there. Love Phillipa

Very moving, great work my friend :) (nm)

I think it is sad on so many levels.

I live close to a major military base that has sent 1000's of troops to the middle east. A lot of those troops have died.

I couldn't watch the video passed the image of the dead US soldier.

Did you talk to that young man's family before using that image? I wonder if that soldier had children that one day might see it?

Again, I ask because I couldn't finish the video.

There is a lot of propoganda on both sides of the war - both by those that support it, and those that are against.

I just think of the soldiers and a quote from byron
"their's not to reason why, their's but to do and die".

Thanks Phillipa. I remember your son was on a newscast you posted. He seemed like a fine young man and one who'd make his Ma proud.:) I am so sorry about your son losing his sight. I don't think a soldier should ever be put in harms way unless absolutely necessary (i.e. WWII, Hitler, etc..)

I also remember I was about 20 or so during Desert Storm, and I was personally bothered by troops being put in harms way. I was in college and joined candlelight vigils "for peace".
Regardless of the politics of it all, I still feel very much for the troops, all the young men and women, and all those who are either maimed or injured (physically or mentally) or lose their life.

Thanks and best...
Jay

Hey Dave....

I hope you are feeling a little bit better (well...heck...much better...but I know that is not easy..) . Lots of British soldiers too who lost their lives. I think that is great that there are sensitive men like us. It's tough, but the world is full of "macho men" with testosterone pumped through the roof. Please take good care of yourself, okay bud?

Thanks..and best...
Jay :)

I know what you are saying. I am sorry, as I said above to Llurpsie, and I should have said something about the very real and horrific images. But what bothers me is that most of the big media doesn't cover these horrible things, hence it only shows one side of the war.

I am not trying to push just one side, even if I do have strong feelings. But the (to me) fortunate thing about having the internet is people can see and read about things that the big media may not cover.

I don't want to push this on you, as you have every right to the way you feel. I just wanted to say that this was intense and very difficult for me to put together.

I very much appreciate your honesty.

Sincerely,
Jay

Jay,

That was exactly the massage I came away with. I did not see it as one sided or political. From beginning to end for me it was about respect for human life All human life.

Thank you for making it,

I think there is a reason that the media will not show images like this on air. I'm not sure it is because they are supporting one side or the other, I think it is out of respect for the families of those that have died.

War impacts life on so many levels, globally, nationally, regionally, and ultimately on a very very personal scale.

It is in this very personal scale that many experience this war. These people fighting (and dying) are my neighbors and friends. I can not imagine the magnitude of heartbreak at seeing an image of your dead husband/son/daughter/father on the national news.

I'm a big believer in the "tend to your own garden" philosophy of life. My garden is with the families and the soldiers.

Now, with the stop loss policy, I think it is no longer accurate at all to describe our armies as all volunteer.

Well, my prayers are with everybody, humanity, including all of those poor innocent Iraqi men, women, and children who have been slaughtered, as well as the completely unnecessary sacrifice of young soldiers. I don't just 'bless' people in my own backyard. My question is, when they see or hear of 1000's of soldiers being killed, why isn't anyone asking questions? There is a complacency similar to WWII Germany. If that was my son or daughter, I would go right to the top, and never stop.

IMHO...

Thanks for the comments Oky. That is right on the head of the nail of what I was trying to say. Respect for human life is tossed around so cheaply these days. "Death" is something out of a video game for kids, and to kill another human being...that is just so...I can't fathom the words. I am horrified every single time I hear of it. It's been that way for 39 years of my life, and I hope for the rest.

Take care...
Jay

Jay I did when my Son was in Iraq I sent letter to the senators and received back letters I have to this day from The Top Of The Military In Washington. Basically saying him being there was my problem not theirs. At least he gets great military Disability payment and private docs for his eyes as his are so severe he needs the best specials and the military docs realize this. Phillipa

When my brother was deployed to the first gulf war we wrote letters too. Got basically the same response. Although it was very generic and expressed gratitude for those that sacrifice in order to serve the country.

He came home intact - more or less.

I just basically meant I have respect for human life on all sides of this war. I have a deep, worldly social conscience, and death on such a massive scale really disturbs me. If you do or don't support the war is a whole different question, and you of course have every right to your answer. I support those poor soldiers out there, but have a different answer when it comes to politicians behind this. Just IMHO, FWIW, anyways.
