Ok here is the situation, My son at age 7 last year 2 weeks into 2nd grade got kicked out of school, For being physically agressive towards teachers and students. This happened after his first summer visit with his dad. I got him into counseling he started zyprexa heid really well and went back to school 2 months later a new kid.He went again with his dad this summer his dad took him off his meds cold turkey w/o consulting and med advise. His Dr has been weening him back on hes at his reg dosage and its not helping. He is a great kid loves animals believes in recycling and saving trees and is basically a tree hugger but he has these melt downs after coming home from dads. I dont want him getting kicked out of school again is it possible he wont be able to continue with zyprexa since he was takin off the way he was? He did so well on it wasnt drowsy no tremers he was just back to his old self.. Any advise?

Hi,

This site has several boards. This one is Psycho-Psycho Babble, about therapy and psychology. Your post is perfectly appropriate here, but since one of your main questions appeared to be about medications, I took the liberty of starting a thread for you on Psycho-Babble (one Psycho), which is the medication board. You can follow the links at the top of the page, or here is the link to your post:

That way, people can respond to non medication aspects of your post here, but more people are likely to respond to medication aspects at the other board.

Have you contacted your son's doctor and psychologist about this? They are probably best qualified to answer your questions, especially since your son is so young.

Dinah

A friend and I always complain that when the kids come home from their Dad's, they're always sick. This year for my daughter after summer vacation (1 month) with her dad, it was bronchitis.

But your son's situation and illness is much more serious. Has the dad been told that the medication is important? Why is he taking the child's health into his own hands? You have evidence here that the father cannot be responsible and follow dr's orders - why not try to get the visitation changed, so that you don't have to deal with this again? Not following medication regimens is serious stuff, enough for a judge to see that it's detrimental to the child to be with the father. You have the medical records to prove it.

I'm not saying you SHOULD do this, but just that I would think you do have reasons to keep your son from visiting his father for long-ish periods of time.

sorry for the advice if it wasn't what you wanted or needed,
best of luck with your son...

Wendy
