My therapist and I have a great Professional relationship and she is helping me through a lot of my issues. I have had days like everyone else where Im really down and I have a lot I can talk about in therapy and then other days where im feeling perfect and nothing is wrong and I dont have anything to talk about. Whenever this happens...I always feel that therapy is almost over for me. But then again, I know my therapist doesnt feel the same. Just last week she asked me what I wanted to be focusing on this year and I have no idea. I dont know of the different therapies out there that are used..(the different techniques). She did mention SandPlay therapy. This is something that intriques me..anyone know anything about this? All I really know is that you make things in the sand...Is this an emotional process?? Im clueless. I have no idea how long my therapy is supposed to last and I just wonder how therapist know when it is time to stop OR do they let their patients be the one to decide????

I really like the book "When to Say Goodbye to Your Therapist" by Catherine Johnson.
And Terry Kupers in "Ending Therapy" talks about "therapy in pieces", where termination doesn't have to mean forever. That a client can come in as life circumstances dictate.
If you're thinking about it, it might be a sign that it's time to bring it up with your therapist and discuss it with her.

Im definately NOT thinking of ending therapy. I just read that when someone is working through transference with a therapist that they are well on their way to recovery..and it is nearing the end of therapy?? I cannot imagine ending my therapy right now..I would be lost without it. I am such a dependent person ..if we were to stop, I would feel abandoned..you know? I just dont know what exactly she is thinking about my progress so it makes me wonder....

I have no intention of ending therapy... ever! However, I did like that book. :) My therapist says that when I'm ready to end therapy, I won't feel that way about ending therapy, but I can't quite imagine it.
