I had a terrible flying experience yesterday coming home from New Orleans. Very very bumpy rollercoaster ride flight. White knuckles, heart felt like it was going to leap out of my throat, I have never had this kind of terror while flying. I just kind of sat there clutching my husband's hand, and gulping like a goldfish taking a hike. I didn't feel like I was going to bolt or scream or anything, but I really overwhelmed with dread for the entire flight. I tried listening to music but it made me really agitated.
Any advice on how it could have been handled better?
Plus now I am certain I could *never* be a flight attendant.

Oh, yuck. I get terrified in turbulence, too, and that sounds especially bad. Sorry, I have no advice. Although, once I sat next to a priest on a really turbulent flight, and he got out a rosary and I watched his fingers and said the prayers to myself as well. I'm not a practicing Catholic anymore, but it actually helped some.
I have a friend who always puts herself to sleep for flights. She doesn't take drugs. I don't know how she does it. But as soon as she's buckled in, she's out. She says she does it on purpose somehow, because she's terrified of the take off and landing.

Hmmmmmm.......I am not sure that I would have handled it better - the roller coaster ride turbulence, and I LOVE to fly.
Think that you can just chalk it up to a bad flight on a bad day?
If not, maybe before your next flight you can take a mild tranquilizer like valium or something to ease things......

Thanks for your replies. The flight threw me for a loop (not literally, thank g*d) since I had never had a problem like this before. I have a trip to England in August and plan to be well prepared chemcially!
