not knowing my name

Posted by dawnfawn on May 11, 2004, at 17:12:00

I saw a new analyst who came 15 minutes late to the session, was annoyed when I pointed this out much much later on. Told me I needed to validate myself as a person but wrote out the bill in another person's name. Any thoughts on this clown?

Can you keep looking? If I (perish the thought) ever have to find a new therapist, I plan on interviewing several.

Well, it doesn't sound promising, for sure. I agree with Dinah that if you have the opportunity, you might benefit a lot from trying a few others before you settle on this guy. I tried about 5 both times that I looked for a T. And even then, I've decided that the second round winner doesn't really fit all that well. It's really important in therapy that you get a generally good feeling from your T. IMHO, getting mad at you and forgetting your name in the first session are not good signs.

Is this your first experience with therapy? If so, I hate that this would be your first impression. Please know that there are good and bad ones out there as you will discover on this board. I'd keep looking for a good one if I were you.

Yeah. Pay by check. Include the bill. Sign your check with the name on the bill.

Hmmm ... then again, when the check gets return and he bounces a check on his assumption that he can just squeak in that last bill of his own based on your payment and he loses his cable connection, he might tell you that besides your need to validate yourself as a person, you have some definite hostility issues to deal with.

Assuming, of course, your T's a he. Add an "s" if needed.

how weird. my first pdoc did that to me too, kind of. since it was through university, billing wasn't an issue, but he was consistently 5-20 minutes late, never remembered who i was, what meds i was taking and/or had tried, why i started therapy in the first place, how i was doing the previous week.... etc., etc., etc.

i put up with it for awhile, since i didn't know any better, but now i know. this is NOT the ideal mental health professional (T *or* pdoc).

good luck with finding someone new, cuz this one should be kicked to the curb.
