Posted by terrics on September 10, 2004, at 16:58:37

Hi, I am in trouble. I really need somone online to communicate with about SIB. I did all my DBT skills and I am still going to do it. I am supposed to call my T. before I do, but I really feel horrible doing that. Does anyone know where I can go online? Desperate terrics

I used to be a member of a BPD board, but we couldn't really talk about SIB because of restrictions on 'making threats' and limitations of 'real time responses' etc. But I don't think that thats the sort of board you need anyway, is it???

What is up? Do you feel like you have to make the pain / anxiety stop, and that that is the only way? Do you feel like nothing is real anymore, and this is a way of feeling grounded in your body again?

I do hope that you haven't done anything yet.

I am sure that your T would much prefer you to call them than to SI. That is what they are there for.

If you do SI then you can't call your T for 48 hrs, right? Talk to us, there are people here on this board who SI and may be able to help you.

I find that when I am feeling really desperate about anything, whether SI or anything else, and can't face calling my therapist, that the next best thing is to email the Samaritans. You can find them at www.samaritans.org They will get back to you within a couple of hours usually, and sort of do therapist type holding.

I wish I knew it last night. My T. did not call back, but a shrink did, but it was too late. I am afraid if I do not stop it she will dump me. Do you find that the more you try to ward it off [after something you cannot handle happens], the stronger the urge gets. I am extremely depressed and do not have the strength or skills to resist. I did try hard. How do you reach the Samaritans? Thanks for your offer of help. It is needed and appreciated. terrics

Oh Terrics, I am sorry it’s so hard. Try and talk to anyone you can to ward it off, but if you can’t help hurting yourself, know that it is to protect yourself against a greater pain, and that it is ultimately a way of being kind to yourself. Try and be as gentle as you can, and try not to feel bad about it. It’s sometimes the only way to survive.

I’m thinking of you so much. It’s an awful place to be.

A big hug.
