The "Talk of the Nation" show (today at 3:00 ET) on personality tests was apparently inspired by this article in Sunday's Boston Globe: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/ideas/articles/2004/09/12/against_types?mode=PF ("Against types" by Drake Bennett, Sept 12 2004)
It mentions a couple books:
"What's Wrong with the Rorschach" by Howard Garb & Scott Lilienfeld & others, and
"The Cult of Personality" by Annie Murphy Paul.

The new book "The Cult of Personality" by Annie Murphy Paul, former editor of 'Psychology Today,' is reviewed in tomorrow's New York Times Book Review (10/10/04). It's largely against personality tests.
The review is at http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/10/books/review/10SATELL.html. It'll be available for at least a week for free online.

thanks for posting that link. I had heard talk of the book, but I have not had the chance to read it. This review seems pretty fair and balanced, to steal a phrase from a network I hate. :)
