Triggers attract me

Posted by vwoolf on January 3, 2005, at 11:19:00

Most people seem to avoid triggering material, which I guess is why we mark some posts as "Triggering". This has the opposite effect on me. I note down the titles of books and films signalled as triggers by others so that I can look for them, and I always read triggering posts first. Does anyone else have this reaction? It's almost like wanting to put my finger in the sore place and feel the hurt more.

hmm...I love that stuff too. Reading the most sadistic stuff makes me feel more sane I suppose. Always have I been attracted to the strange and unusual (remembering the line from Beatlejuice lol) I've tried to stop, but I continue to be drawn to all of the things that are not optimistic. Reading philosophy and science fiction are even better at confusing me, but I love the sh*#! Maybe it's some sort of obsession with the crap that makes us tick? There don't seem to be any answers and the questioning always plagues my curiosity.

I am also attracted to things which normal people consider to be...well...negative is an understatement. The problem is that my emotional response to reading or hearing about these things is strangely different- can't feel what normal people do and I get "turned on" by imagining horrible things that happen to me. Does anyone else experience this?

Definitely. Does "turned on" mean sexually?

The same happens to me, and I find it very disturbing, bizarre.

Me, too. Do you have any possible explanation as to why this happens? Has it always been that way for you? It has with me.

I am strangely attracted to these posts too. I do not get particularly turned on by sadistic/triggering things, maybe it's just curiosity with me.
