Okay, I was leaving my session this week and still kind of chewing on what we had talked about. As I got to my car, I thought to myself (only partially joking) "I've been doing this the wrong way all along!" It was a bit of an epiphany. And I can't remember it! That's all I can remember of this particular insight! Arrrggggghhhhh!
Anyone else have an insight float away before you get a chance to grab onto it?
Grrrrr

>All the time! It's the most frustrating thing, but sometimes it can come back to you at a completely unexpeted moment. I hope that happens for you.

yeah, me too !!!
Although, since I keep forgetting it, maybe it's the same epiphany over and over- I just think it's different!
I am much better, today, than I was a year ago, so maybe my SUBCONSCIENCE is remembering though....

I suspect the internal forces for homeostasis are very very strong.

me too. But I think I try so hard to intellectualize the emotions that they float away. I want there to be an understandable explanation for every feeling.
I'm having trouble with my dreams around this lately. And usually I remember my dreams.

Yes, yes, yes.
I wonder if it's because the thought is such a threat to how I am, to the ways of being I have so carefully cultivated, that I can't retain it.

YES In fact it happens so often I tell my friends that I have total recall...just not same day service! I feel like my mind goes so fast and in so many directions that if I can grasp a few thoughts and keep them I'm doing well.
Take care gg!

This week in therapy I said "What I want, at the end of the day is..." and by then I had forgotten what I wanted. I filled in something, but it wasn't really what I wanted to say. Then I said "Between the beginning of the sentance and the end of the sentance I forgot what I wanted".
Sometimes if I can go back over what I was thinking just before that I can remember what it was. But lots of times it is just plain gone.

Well, I'm glad (?) that I'm not the only one. I guess it's a psychological phenomenon rather than swiss cheesy memory.
sigh, it still hasn't come back. Usually I forget before I remember...lol, does that make sense? Now that I remember the moment but not the content..it's driving me crazy.
oh well. If it's important, it will be back.

so funny you should say that.... I've been known to say that I have a photographic memory, but nowadays I seem to have the wrong film!

The topic came up again this session, and it triggered my memory. My T laughed at me when I talked with my hands and demonstrated grasping at air to try to pull the insight back.
Anyway, it involves a different way of looking at my depression and how to combat it. It involves giving up the "broken invalid" role and working from my strengths. I still can't really articulate it, but I have a better idea.
Yeah, I always say if it's important it will come back up. Didn't think it would be so soon, though.
