He stops taking my insurance in march. With a $600 deductible that is too much. What do I do? I've been thinking about trying to get my regular doctor to prescribe my psycho meds. What do you think, will she go for it? The only thing I am worried about is getting prescriptions. All my current prescriptions are good for a year. Don't plan on needing a doctor for the rest of the year. But then what? Try getting off meds in the next year? Find a new psychiatrist? Or convince my general practishioner.

It's tough when something like this happens and it's forced on us. I think the answer to your question depends on how stable you are on the meds you presently take. If you're really just being maintained on them and don't anticipate making changes, your regular doc might be fine. Lots more of them are prescribing psychotropic drugs now. I don't think I would trust my internist to advise me about possible alternatives now since my drug history is long and complicated.

I think the mix is here to stay. No major changes. My last meeting the doc said I should stick with this combo. I think he is right. We realy have not been talking about anything important lately. Also think I could handle my own med changes. Minimaly. If she is willing thats what I'm going to do.

ASK your PDOC to write your GP what meds you are on and explain to GP about the insurance....odds are you will get them. When I fired my PDOC of 4 visits due to no call backs and my insurance issues and she had no problem still gives them to me years later :) So I have been there done that.

It worked for me ...that was years ago no pdoc for me yet I get my meds. My co-pay is now 1000 dollars and no mental health insurance so I really understand the point of a letter from PDOC to GP..I didnt need it is to prove and have on record WHY you are getting these meds from a GP kinda covers his/her *rse :P

I've also had good luck with an internist prescibing psych meds- especially if it was a reliable script(s) that your pdoc can vouch for.
best of luck, judy

I talked to my GP, and she said she would not prescribe the psychotropics. Now what? Find a new pdoc that is in network for a $20 only copay? Or pay my old pdoc, who desperatly wants to keep me, $45, at the special rate. Plus the sessions will get shorter, 30 min, down from 45-50. What do I do? Not sure if I can afford it.
