Hello babblers.I am looking for information about the effect of
medication on people who tend to dissociate.
For instance, if such a person were to take an
antipsychotic or a stimulant, can different
ego states come out as a result of the medication?
TIA.
Rosalee.

Same for stimulants.
Not so sure about anti psychotics...
I think there has been some study or something to show that small doses of Seroquel can help with dissociation. By which I think they mean reduce reports of dissociating or switching into alternative states...
Seroquel is one of the newer anti psychotics so maybe other anti psychotics assist a little with preventing dissociating too... I dunno... You might want to ask over on the main Babble (medications) board if you haven't already.

I hope you don't mind me asking what exactly is meant by dissociation. Some kind of weirdness where you are outside yourself, so to speak? Does it include not feeling grounded? Have anything to do with splitting? (That is just an afterthought, I dunno what splitting is, some psycoanalytic term maybe).
TIA

Not feeling grounded is part of it. Also, different ego states, or "inner parts", as they are sometimes called.
Not sure what is meant by splitting.

i've herd the term defensive splitting. it's when you see things all one way and all the other. such as a view toward your abuser, you hate what he did so you hate him, you are related to him so you have to love him completely. these feelings are all or nothing kind of and switch back and forth cuz they can't find the middle ground.
