I dont want, i am burned out of posting what going through severe anxiety is like.
During the day when something comes up, unexpected plans, i react sometimes with sort of this mild mania to keep with it.
I swear i cannot believe im in one piece, next semester i have Accounting I, Collage Algebra, Literature, and English. I just say im going make it.
I came on this site when i was 17, was fine for till December 2004, being 18 now is like whole new world. Jobs, collage, survival.
I need to find something that it is going to get me through. I really have found that its really yourself that can do things, not prescription stimulants, sedatives, antidepressants (can help through a time)
That is my view point for now.
I guess im back to pbabble for now.
Matt

Stress can be a trigger for every psychiatric illness. Stress increases protein kinase C (PKC) which is an enzyme which is high in mania.

There is good and bad stress. Some stress is neccessary for survival and reaction to trauma let's say. But negative stress is a killer responsible besides psychiatric illness, heart disese, cancer just to name a few. Fondly, Phillipa

Not all stress is damaging. People in the Olympics or in a high stakes poker game all experiece stress. It can make them better. I've got a job interview this week in which I'll be questioned and then given a test about engineering principles that I've totally forgotten about.
I do two things. I try to prepare if I can. Then I take the attitude... what does it matter in the big picture...basically WTF? My health comes first. I'm still going to be alive no matter.
warm regards ~Jake

stress can be good or bad. Sometimes, even "good stress" can cause problems--for instance, sometimes soon-be-to-married women will start losing hair rapidly b/c of the stress of their upcoming wedding. If you look at bipolar and schizophrenia, a lot of the chronically ill patients have experienced *extreme* stress-there are pretty high rates of child abuse, sexual abuse, etc. in psychiatric patients. Same goes for depression and anxiety. Plus, some people just can't handle stress quite as well as others can naturally. So, yeah--stress can definitely set the stage for illness or an "episode" in a pre-existing mental condition. Psychiatrists usually recommend that patients learn to manage stress better when they have to deal with emotional problems; it makes handling life much, much easier.

>>During the day when something comes up, unexpected plans, i react sometimes with sort of this mild mania to keep with it.<<My opinion: adrenaline. "Unexpected plans" are the key words. "Sometimes" is also a strong clue.

Welcome back!!
Of course stress can set off so many things - mania perhpas being one of them.
I hope you try to organize everything so you don't feel too much stressed. Organization always helps! Work out a time plan, and chart out when you need to do what. Make use of calendar and task list in organizers, and learn to delegate tasks to others.

I don't usually become hypomanic when stressed, although I have never been hypomanic without either being very stressed or fatigued and typically both.
