Thanks for asking Happy. Its cool to get a thread to me.
My kid came back. She was real mad and stayed away for AWHILE and I was so flat. But she's back and I am happy about it.
Take care Happy, I don't have many words right now.
:-)

****Ya, you get my kid going....look out, she's wacky!
By the way, can you say 'penis'. Aaack. I HATE that word, there are so many more friendly words. But apparently you supposed to teach your kids CORRECT terminology. I hate birds and bees stuff. I still call sex 'mating', talk about silly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HOPE my T don't have call display!!!!
And I know there's pain under the humour about your T, I feel bad bout that.
Sometimes what else can you do but laugh. Laughing is better than imploding. :(

“Penis.” Oh yeah, I think I can!
> Aaack. I HATE that word, there are so many more friendly words. But apparently you supposed to teach your kids CORRECT terminology.
I don’t mind ‘penis’, but I hate the words for female genitalia. Nevertheless, I taught my daughter ‘vulva’. When she said it, no one knew what she meant. She calls it her flower now.

Tee hee. My eldest kid is very curious about sex, because I’ve been pregnant twice in short succession. When she was four, and I was pregnant with her brother, she asked me loudly in the middle of the supermarket: “Mommy, when gay men have sex, do they tie their penises together?”
That was a fun moment. I had a split second to decide how to explain gay sex to a four year-old… It made me realise how genitally-focused my explanation of straight sex had been…

Hey, since me and my DH had kids, we always say, DO you have to go potty? It is really embarresing when he says he has to go potty at work though!
But he is losing it, he wore 2 different shoes to work 3 times this year. DUH!
Next thing I know he will need a diaper, he seems to need a pacifer though now! Or a kick in the pants.

rofl.
My son has been very clear with us that he does *not* want to know the specifics of sex. We got him a book but he never refers to it, and deflects any attempt to discuss it.
I guess there's still time to respect his wishes on the subject.

> I guess there's still time to respect his wishes on the subject. It's hard... I think a trusted adult outside the family is the best person to explain this stuff. Parents are just too embarrassing!
I got my eldest a book called "Mummy laid an egg." It has childish drawings of people having sex on skateboards and suchlike! My friend's little girl made their priest read it to her...
But I think it's a little young for your son. Is there anyone you trust to talk to him?

Story one: when my newphew was about 6 years old, there was a family get together (about 27 relatives). A bunch of adults & kids were talking about school and friends and he popped up and said, "I have a best friend." And the adults said, "That's nice, who is your best friend?" And very matter of factly he replied, "My penis."
I think my sister wanted to die.
And that same sister ... has a daughter, "Sally". And when she was about 3 (now she is a drop dead gorgeous 17 year old) my husband (back then, new boyfriend) went to babysit for her. Sally answers the door and says to us, "Do you want to see my vagina?" My husband in a deadpan voice says, "Those are very nice pajamas Sally, thank you." She insisted, "No, not pajamas, do you want to see my vagina?" And again, my husband said, "Sally I can see how pretty your pajamas are, thank you."
My sister is a nurse and always was extremely comfortable with those body part namings!!

lol...those were great!
I have one - *warning* starts funny, gets a little sad/bad...
when my daughter was four, she came down with chicken pox (thoughtfully gave them to ME, too...you DON'T want them as an adult....'nother story there...) while we happened to be temporarily staying with my inlaws. She had a mild case, with maybe 10-15 pox over her entire body, and was still feeling okay-enough to be up and playing. So, with my MIL, FIL, husband and a neighbor couple we'd just met in the living room, my little one says in her loudest voice, "Hey, know what? Know what?" At which, of course some adult asks, "what, honey?"
Daughter: "I have one chicken pox on my vagina!"
Uh-huh. Thanks for that bit of info, dear.
Wish I would've more correctly taught her vulva, because I'll bet I would have gotten several blank stares. Many adults really don't know the correct words, I've learned over the years.
Well, I'm pretty sure I laughed it off. At the most, I might have briefly told her (away from other people) that she might not want to tell things about private parts in front of the neighbors, but that she'd done *nothing* bad.
As it was (not so nice part coming up...), my MIL cornered me in the kitchen a short while later and proceeded to lecture me on how my daughter didn't need to know "words like that," and that if I wanted, she could tell me some "kiddie" words (or something) I could use instead. When I tried to explain I'd purposely taught her the actual terms and why, my MIL said that was "disgusting" and I was "corrupting" her! okay then. Thanks for the support, MIL (who was a retired nurse!!!)
And later...hubby took her side completely and said my teaching these words made my child appear to be "dirty" and embarrassed him in front of his parents' friends (!!!) :-(
Talk about a family with some shame issues - yes - later discovered all kinds of not-nice problems with various kinds of abuse within his family. (Long story, but this reaction did make a bit more sense then.)
But, as for the original comment by a 4-year old, well, excuuuuse me, I thought it was cute, really :-)
This is the end of the thread.
