Beautiful Poem

Posted by bailey777 on January 2, 2006, at 17:14:31

I thought I share this beautiful poem I heard on the radio. I find it comforting when I'm down. Maybe it will help others. It's Gaelic.

Beannacht

On the day when the weight deadens on your shoulder
And you stumble,
May the clay dance to balance you.

And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window
And the ghost of loss gets into you,
May a flock of colours, indigo, red, green and azure blue
Come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays in the curach of your thought
And a stain of ocean blackens beneath you,
May there come across the waters
A path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of the light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow wind work these words of love around you,
An invisible cloak to mind your life.

i almost didn't read this, because most poetry i see (or sent my way) seems to be religious in nature. but i did, and glad for it. do you know what the title means?

Not pathetic at all. It's about grief, but then so positive about it is a natural part of life and how life can be positive. Here's a link to the interview:

http://audio.theworld.org/mp3/glohit/12222005.mp3

it's an mp3 file so it will probably start playing. The woman who reads the poem has a beautiful Irish accent that will make you cry. It made me. But I listen to it every so often because it does make me feel good.

Best
