being nice while being miserable

Posted by med_empowered on March 13, 2006, at 21:02:38

hi everyone. This is a kind of random post..

I've realized that my misery has made me miserable to be around a good bit of the time. I'm trying to control it, but sometimes its so difficult--like, a friend will be saying something, and i'll be so distracted or whatever that I don't even process it..or I'll be so tired im just grumpy and rude...

how does everyone else deal with this--the need to be a good person, even while you're going through personal difficulty?

I struggle like hell.... » med_empowered

i'm just the opposite. see i push down all my own feelings and concentrate on others. i pretend. i always put on the mask.
however i do the space thing quite often, but i can be pretty blunt and just say, sorry i just spaced out there for a minuted, what'd you say?"

i guess i put the 'need to be a good person' ahead of my own needs. it's easier for me using avoidance.

now, i don't recommend this. i think if you're in a bad mood, it's ok to show it. but i know we're not talking about a few hours of bad mood here.
i think its important to balance.leave time for yourself to be sad or mad, but don't let it take over. sometimes if you smile enough to others, you smile inside as well.
