I don't know that he would want to spend Christmas with me - I just don't know him that well (although I do want to spend it with him). But I know he does care - I said to him once, "I wish you could be my parent." and then I was very scared that I had said something wrong and he said very gently, "Sometimes I wish I was your parent too." So they definitely take us in somewhat.

Good question SG. I do wonder how much training your average T gets for this sort of thing? Its such an intense trust that we goto have for our t, to be able to do the work that we do. Its a strange thing all round. Its not natural. Hell its bloody ridiculous and hard and confusing. I have a feeling my t tries hard NOT to think bout clients when she on holiday. A self preservation thing she needs to do. I dunno though, cuz she did say that she would pray fro me over the holidays? So I dunno?

Have good holidays,

My ex-T says that when he moved away and closed his practice it was really hard and sad to leave all of the people (clients) that he had developed close relationships with. He also told me once that there is some great research that shows that when one person feels a connection to the other person, almost always it's because the other person feels it too. Apparently they've done some kind of brain imaging that shows synchronicity between the brains of the connecting people. His point was that if I feel connected to him, it's because the two of us have a connection, not because I'm making something up that he doesn't feel.

And I've spoken to other Ts who talk about their bonds with clients, from their side. (I'm in a M.A. program for counseling psych, and all my teachers are practicing Ts.) Of course, it's different for them, because the therapy is so focused on the client's experience. But I think a good T really does feel the connection.
