Gold Stars?

Posted by Llurpsie_Noodle on January 31, 2007, at 22:24:05

Folks I DID it, I accepted a compliment graciously, and FROM my T no less!!

I was telling her about my latest and greatest discussions with husband about how he "doesn't believe in shrinks" and other exciting topics, and about how I got really mad at one point, but I identified the source of the emotion (only 24 hours late) and told him (only 25 hours too late) of my insight.

T gave me 2 gold stars. 1) for identifying two emotions that I had displaced ONTO my poor unsuspecting hubby. and 2) for telling hubby about my failures to identify the cause for my sudden moodswings at the time that they were happening.

yay! go me! I had an emotion (anger) and expressed it (to the wrong person-- my hubby, not the colleague who's email pissed the hell outta me) and then later (the next day) had an AHAAAA! moment, and went and apologized to hubby, who held his head high and said "I HATE being accused, and most of ALL, I don't believe in shrinks [just what I wanted to hear when I was explaining to him why I'm now, after 8 years of being together, able to piece together a simple misunderstanding]"

Dinah, who seems to have a soft spot for my marriage-- you'll be happy to know that next time hubby and I are available, we'll be seeing the "shrink" together, because although he "doesn't believe in shrinks [to help HIM]" I begrudgingly got him to admit that a "shrink" MIGHT help us (the married couple) or me (the crazy?? one).

And now off to sleep.

I'm so sorry that I've been missing on p-babble. I miss y'all.

-LlNoodle

p.s. i accepted the stars, and then got a bit ungracious when I said I'd use them to cover up my two (7?) zits-- which I then pointed out to my T. See?!? She was still happy with me, though.

Zazenduckie!!!!
I'm really really honored that you posted on my thread :) Thank you for not leaving it bare.

The stars fall offa my skin too. (oily here, flaky there) but today I've got a certain glow. dunno why? Maybe because of eating healthy food 2 days in a row?

I enjoy when my pdoc grabs a bunch of samples and starts handing me box after box containing 2 pills in each box. Feels like I'm a trick-or-treater on Halloween. A couple times I didn't have my bag with me, and I'm contemplating having to leave the office with my pockets and hands stuffed with samples-- paper bag to the rescue. Then I REALLY felt like a trick-or-treater.

but gold stars from my T? That's pretty cool. I still have my first ever Suzuki book from 24 years ago, gold stars and all. next to "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" and "Twinkle Twinkle" and other hits of "Suzuki Violin Method".

aww, to be a little munchkin again. no, I take that back.

I almost never got gold stars, Lurps. I was a mischievous kid-- so it was usually the red or green stars for me (we all got stars, nice teacher, huh?).

Once in a while, I got one. That was pretty exciting.

(That was before I got too screwed up and became a model child, which was before I was a wreck and wasn't.)

Haven';t gotten one in a long time, although my T keeps saying he's "proud" of me, recently, which makes me nervous. (Nails on the blackboard nervous.) Maybe he can give me some gold stars.

Please use my thread to share that you've been making "progress", or just to share a nice story that made you feel better about yourself, your therapy or whatever.

For those of you that haven't been awarded a gold star in a while, it's not because you've been bad. In fact you've been earning them with interest all along. It's just because you don't have a place to stick them.

Here is the place for you to stick your Gold Stars.

1) LlurpsieNoodle **
2) Honore - for T being "proud of her" *
3) Zazenduckie - for believing in change and sticking up for victims with quiet voices *

anyone else?

Hi Llurpsie,

I envy you your stars...and your delight in them. Your posts always make me smile. You have a lovely spirit.

My therapist hasn't given me gold stars but she has told me she is proud of me.

The other day I was out shopping and came across a book store I've never seen before. It wasn't til I started browsing that I realised it was a special store that provides resources to teachers. They had a whole section filled with big packs of stickers for teachers to hand out. Like gold stars, "Well Done" stickers, smiley faces, etc.

They were so tempting.

Except I had no idea how to use up over 100 well done stickers.

I used to love the scratch n sniff stickers the best. Except the banana ones. I hate bananas.

(And by the way Llurpsie, happy dance for you!!)

I get two gold stars - one because I talked about sex the whole time with my T last session and I didn't dissociate and I was honest. And the second because I went to my first trauma survivors group last night. It was really really scary, and I got really scared and got lost at one point but then it was ok again. Wow.... maybe another one for getting through the day today even though I was really shaken still. Can I have three stars?

I've never gotten a gold star :( but my T did clap for me the other day! Does that count? It was odd. She was proud of me because I'd actually gone to one of my ballet classes. Of course I didnt go this week so I think the pseudo-gold star got taken away, but it's okay.. I'm keeping it anyway.

I have trouble accepting compliments, even from my T, too. Like when I tell her what grade I got on a paper or an exam, and she says that I did really well, I just feel like the professor must have graded them really easily or something.

Anyway, Llurpsie, you're soooo sweet! Thank you for that.

my t liked my shoes today. and we talked about really hard stuff. binging. self-loathing, etc.

How's it going Lurpsie? any new developments on the Therapy? do you still like your T as much as in the beginning, or more? or is it more complicated?
