Hi All-
I met with my new T yesterday, and it looks like it might be a match. She's fully aware of how my ex-T handled my termination, and she was appalled. She likes to integrate artwork into her practice, which is fine by me! She strikes me as being experienced, and I like her background/training.
Time will tell; it takes a few sessions to get a really clear picture, but the early signs are good. Fingers crossed for me! After the drama with my ex-T, I need a break!

That's great!!!!
It takes a while to find out if this is a good long term match, but those early days of therapy also have their charms. I really enjoyed my early sessions with T3 (the second therapist I saw when I was unsure my therapist would be coming back to town).

Yes, hopefully it will be a match. She seems very grounded and has a great understanding of things.

I am happy for you that she seems good, and I hope it works out. Are you artistically inclined or like art?? I had a pdoc/therapist who was big into opera. When he was my hospital doctor he was always trying to get me to watch an opera on PBS, and I would go yuk. I was younger then, and now since he is no longer alive, I think there are some things about opera that I like. I am now the age he was when he was first my hospital doctor and later my pdoc/therapist. He was wonderful, and I thought of him like a father as I had never had a father.
Do you know anything about your new therapist's background and training and years of experience. She should be appalled with the last person who really behaved unprofessionally.

It's weird; I'm not artistically inclined, per se, but I do like doing collage work when I can't access the words I need to discuss something. She was all over it! =) She also likes to have people do sand trays, but won't force it on people.
She's done a lot of work with PTSD, depression, DV, and DID. She's also presently listed as a Bay Area provider for Operation Comfort, which provides counseling for discharged Iraq war vets, which says a lot for her humanity. I have rapid-cycling unipolar depression only, but just the fact she deals with the "tough stuff" lessens the chances of her bailing on me(I hope, anyway). She's been in practice for over 12 years and her training is in the Jungian and psychodynamic approaches.
I showed her the termination letter, and further explained how I was terminated, and she was appalled. She could not believe that the intern's supervisor actually agreed to the termination in that fashion. She even remembered the supervisor's name, as she had taken a workshop from her some years ago.
That is a very sweet story about your first T and opera. It's like he's still with you via opera. =)
I definitely grilled the new T on background/training. I had talked with other T's on the phone, but she seemed like the best "match". I really hope it works out. All early indications are good. She even said that losing my ex-T is like losing a parent, and that it would take time to grieve. My ex-T was like a mom, so yeah...makes sense.

She sounds like she just might be a keeper. I hope so for your sake. You deserve someone good. Art stuff can help one get in touch with those long ago feelings and fears, and it sounds like she knows what she is doing with this. I hope it all goes well and will be anxious to hear how things go.
