my T and I have discussed music. In recent weeks I have seen a world-famous orchestra perform works by Bruckner, Shostakovich, Berg, and Mahler. I described my state of dissociation and quasi-psychosis during the Shostakovich, in particular. T agreed with me that the music was NOT good for my mental health.
Lately what HAS been helping me feel good are Masses and sacred choral music. I really love the music of Arvo Pärt. He is a contemporary composer and his stuff is almost ambient music in the way that textures and harmonies collect, gather, transmute over space

I have found certain music triggers me to switch. the last time which was a few days ago it was weird because for the first time with this one I was allowed to stay. I felt the switch but couldn't talk to her. She is a dangerous one that one and it is only certain music that she responds too. Some music I use to soothe me. I am finding certain movies a triggers too but lately lots of things are triggers.....sigh.....rk

I did post on the Books board about an Oliver Sacks book about music (but nobody has, ahem, commented there):

He talks a lot in it about music and healing, though in terms of dementia in particular. What a fascinating subject. I am very changeable where music is concerned; sometimes it can soothe me, and at other times I just cannot filter it out and find that the same piece of music will distract me :-(
I do have quite a memory for lyrics and I used to *love* playing along with "Name That Tune" when it was a game show that lasted into the 70's. Now I just get to play it with my DH.CS

There is one musician I listen to when I am my most agitated, depressed self: Dino. He's a Christian pianist and does beautiful arrangements of mostly Christian songs with nature sounds in the background. It is very relaxing to me.

music, it would seem, is very powerful....
I like the relaxation idea.
Nature type sounds music.
Anybody got any files they can send Bob of such a thing?
I have none myself.
I would love to listen to something like that when I babble.
Hmmm.
