Does DBT only take place in groups, or can it be one-on-one?

If you can borrow a copy of the handbook, in the front intro part, there is quite alot written bout what Linehan figgers is the best way to apply her methods.
My T had considered going thru it with me, but after borrowing her copy of the handbook and reading the inro stuff, I realized that its quite important to have the consistancy....and twixt her and me...LOL...we DON'T got it.
So not even gonna try. Also, if you did it with T you would need two session/wk I would think...
I think from what I can gather, if you can get into a well amnaged DBT group, its proly better....
I found for the short time I was involved, that the group setting was useful in hearing other peoples input bout stuff. I felt much less alone.
So for that reason as well, a group is nice.
I have heard good things bout DBT. But you gotta work at it...its hard work. But very useful, once the skills are learned and established.
I would try DBT myself again if it was avail....
Good luck.

True DBT has both a group element and an individual element. However, there are a lot of places that do DBT that isnt strict DBT. I'm sure you could find one that was just group or a therapist who did DBT style counseling individually if thats what you wanted. I was in a DBT group for several months when I was released from the hospital and found it pretty helpful.

Nice to see your name Wishingstar...I've been wondering about you. Hadn't noticed you at Social for a bit. I hope you're doing okay.
Do you find that the benefits have lasted with the DBT?
luv, Kath
