Waiting.

Posted by Cal on September 19, 2008, at 10:37:36

Whenever I email T I always feel as if she is trying to teach me to wait ... I feel like a self-centred 3yr old, that has asked for something and wants it now ... intellectually I can say to myself, don't be silly, shes busy, its not just you that she has to deal with ..but my dirty little secret is that I really feel she should jump when I call ...I feel like an over grown child in an adults body, stamping their feet and pouting because I have to wait ...please tell me others have felt like this and that they've "recovered" from it ...sighs

I do this myself. Just this morning I was stuck in a similar situation and very frustrated until I got a response. Are you like this around everybody or is it just with T? I talked this through with my T and she said it's normal to expect health professionals to put you first because this is the role they play when you see them in session. We don't see them socially or around other people so it's natural to feel we're the only one that matters, even when rational mind says otherwise.

Thank you for not making me wait to long :-)

Its only with T really .. I liken it to a baby looking for her mothers breast but its not there ... I lack impulse control I feel ... I get a feeling then I need it resolved immediately so I won't have to deal with the anxiety ... like an addict looking for that one magical fix that will take them to etopia for ever and ever ... fix me T!

I completely relate. I totally understand. My T has reassured me that she does get my voicemails and messages (not to say that I leave her a whole lot). But I definitely feel like she wants me to be patient.
