I don't understand my T

Posted by AppleG10 on January 28, 2010, at 19:16:37

Hi. This is my first post here. I don't understand my T. I just got out of a two month inpatient hospital stay for bipolar. She decided I'm now well enough to see her every other week. WTH! I just got out of the hospital! Of course I'm not well enough yet! What do I do? I've had other problems with this T and she wasn't my first choice, but so far I thought things were okay. Help!

Can you tell her that? I don't feel well enough to see you every other week? Sometimes my p-doc (also my T) would suggest cutting to every other week when I was really depressed because we couldn't really do therapy when I was depressed, all we could do was manage my meds. But I would dig in my heels. I wasn't feeling able to cut back.

Have you tried discussing it with her? She might, like Emmanuel's therapist, have a reason that seems sensible to her. But it seems only right that she should be willing to discuss it with you and to get your ideas on the subject.

She doesn't sound like she is worth talking to about anything. You are having this problem with her and have had problems in the past. Find someone else. You are worth it. Ask others for ideas on who else might be good for you such as the people at the inpatient place and your regular MD (family doctor).

Maybe this is how _my_ mind goes, but I wonder if it has to do with money. I think if a client self-pays the therapist's full rate, openings for more appointments would be easy to come by, or one would have many options to find another t with more openings easily. Then, people with a private insurance that reimburses the t well may have just slightly less ease in getting more appointments. Then a bit harder if it's a private insurance, but one that is stingy to the t. But woe unto the masses with a poorly-paying insurance such as Medicaid or Medicare, or an uninsured client relying on a reduced-cost arrangement. Also, if the t is at a public agency, her caseload may be unreasonably large, but there may be no way for her to reduce it. So I could easily imagine the poor, and even middle class, being told, this is all we'll let you have (affordably), take it or leave it.
