Dating someone who is not nuts

Posted by therock on March 12, 2008, at 13:11:28

Hello,

I have major depression. I am dating someone who is not being treated for any mental issues; ie: she seems healthy for the most part.

I feel like there is a level of inner turmoil I am not able to share since she can't relate. Do I leave this out of the relationship? How do you handle it?

Thanks.

i really feel like i shouldn't be answerign any questions on realtionships! honestly! that's really not something i'm good at :)

i used to date someone who was about as sane as they come. and insanity runs in my family, like coffee runs through my bloodstream. it didn't work out for us, but he was a good guy. (honestly, it was my fault. i'm no good at relationships!! i warned you!!! wanna get married?)

for me, i try not to show all my crazy too fast (then again, i don't always take my meds, so i screw that up quite often!!!). i think it tends to scare people off. then again, i've been told i'm very very VERY cold (by myself more than once :). so, while you may not want to tell her in the first month you feel like cutting off your ear, it's ok to tell her you suffer with depression. i think it's become very (snort) acceptable to have psychaitric disorders nowadays, you know? notice all the ads on tv? in fact, you may be surprised by what she shares..

geez, don't listen to me, like i said, i do't know what i'm tlakign about :) honestly, i jsut luck out!

good luck, and if she dumps you, i'll give you my addy, i'm divorce my husband, and we cna have a wonderful affair for a whiel! (hey, i've been called flighty more than once!)

therock, everyone deserves honesty. its essential to having a healthy relationship. depression is a huge part of who you are and what you struggle with daily. it WILL affect the both of you eventually so you may as well be up front with her. find strength in yourself and tell her the truth.

everyone will b different but i say after some time has gone by and there's a level of understanding n u both are quite comfortable w/ each other. take care of yourself in the process so your symptoms are under control. makes it ezr for the both of you. wish u both the best in your relationship.
