Just wanted to let everybody know that I won't be posting anymore, ever again, on the net using my real name. Last night, my husband showed up all upset because a friend gave him a floppy with all my various posts to this site. Some were not even ones I made but were by someone with a similar name. So be careful in posting!--Cindy W

Wise decision. BTW, "Snowie" is not my real name; it's the name of my all-white female cat. I put my nick into a search engine not long ago and was surprised by the number of posts written by me as "Snowie." Consequently, I now have to change email addresses because of the high volume of junk mail I receive.

Cindy--What a terrible violation of your privacy! I am also very paranoid about using my real name (which is not shar). Even stating that I was from Texas was hard for me to get used to. So, I hope I haven't given away too much info.
I'm sorry this has happened to you. It's sort of like a loss of innocence or trust that you might have felt you had.
Hope you feel better.

I'm really very sorry about this. :-(
You have to give a name and an email address when you register, but:
1. The name doesn't have to be your real name.
2. The email address has to be a valid email address, but you don't have to give it when you post.In other words, you don't have to make your real name or your email address public.
Sorry again, but the price of liberty is eternal vigilance.

C-how AWFUL!!!!!!
I hope you can come back as a psuedonym.
I don't use my real name and try not to provide any identifying info (besides age), although I think I have slipped sometimes on that.

> >Dr. Bob, is there some way of registering without having my PB name pop up on the screen every time I come to this site? I have considered re-registering, and probably will, for confidentiality reasons, but I use a home computer which is used by several people, and my husband anyway, knows how to find this site. Changing my name isn't going to do me alot of good if my new name is so easily accessible either. Thanks ksvt

>Cindy - I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am that this has happened to you. I've had my own confidentiality concerns, but when I'm not focused on that, I feel like this is a very safe place for me to express stuff that I really don't care to share with lots of people, and sometimes stuff I don't want to share with my otherwise very understanding husband. I can only guess at the frightful sense of violation you must feel. I hope you can find a safer way to post and that you don't have to absent yourself from here altogether. BTW - what kind of a friend of your husband would do something like this? ksvt

ksvt--you can "erase" your "cookies" before closing the PB window. "Erase Cookies" is one of the links toward the top of the page (below the intro but above the threads). Click on that. Then, you will get a new window. Scroll down a bit until you see a button that says "Erase Cookies". Just click on that. Nothing will seem to happen, but if you go back to PB main page (or PSB) you will see that your info is gone. I use this all the time because I use the library computers a lot.

What information is gone after you erase? The posts? I'm confused on this one (duh!).

what is gone after erasing cookies is the preprinted name and password in the follow up box.

also, your registration info is not automatically on the screen if you erase the cookies.

Cindy,
This is terrible. I hope nothing caused any problems between you and your husband. I am fortunate that my wife isn't interested in anything I might say, and I really don't care what anyone else thinks.
Good luck with your future "mask". I hope we will still know who you are!

The person who gave your husband a disk of your postings on PB was no friend! Not of yours, not of his.
It not only hurts you, it hurts everyone who posts here. Shame on that person!
