I'm curious what specific positive benefits you recall from those 20+ sessions that encourages you to consider perhaps pursuing it more at another time, if $ permits. BTW, what was the cost where you checked it out? Around $100 (Cdn) per session here...

dj, i apologize for my delay in responding. I thought i had replied to your message. i'm on a bit of a rollercoaster right now.

Cost was $100 US per session

I had the following effects, as far as I recall:

- some relaxation effects
- occasional improvement in mood (more cheerful)
- increased sense of awareness (i know that sounds vague, but i'm not sure how to describe it)
- sense that i could focus better (i was doing volunteer work at the time, so that was helpful)

another side effect - a positive sense that i was working with intelligent, caring, honest people who weren't trying to bullshit me and listened closely to me, and that i was doing something affirmative to help myself

Thanks, Mars! Hopefully your rollercoaster will smooth out soon...!!!

Last bit I'm curious about is did you notice any lasting effect from any of this and if so how long did the benefits you noted last? And what sort of software programs did they have you watch? One with butterflies flashing on and off or/and ...??

thanks for the good thoughts, dj ~

honestly, things got so bad in a situational sense during and after the time i did neurofeedback i can't evaluate lasting effects.

the interface thing is actually really interesting to me. i had a bit of trouble finding one that suited me, probably because i'm a fussy virgo and have worked for a graphic design software company and love animation a lot. the interfaces i tested were pretty crude technically, but usable. no butterflies. there were only four or five to choose from, including the pacman one. (i think the package being used was a bit more oriented to kids.)

i liked one that had a night sky with a mountain in the distance (reminded me of colorado, which has a lot of emotional associations for me), and there was a road that i was rolling *back* on, not forward. (as the ancient greeks said, we're going backward into the future =;) graphical elements on the road itself and immediately below the main picture showed me how i was doing. there were also beeping noises - those were supposed to be really good, but the tones themselves annoyed me - but for each beep a star came out in the sky. something poetic like that will always hook me.

where did you see butterflies?

cheers,

mars

Mars,

I've tried it a couple of times. Don't know what to make of it yet. The sessions I tried were also crude. One involved various butterflies and moths appearing on a blufflike screen then reappearing and dissappearing. Another was a couple of rotating planets. Another was a strip of colours. Another was a Buddha-like blank surrounded by bands of colour. All with various tone varitations...

Cheers,

dj
