Over the last few years I have had nightmares
ocassionaly. In the dreams, my father is coming
over me from behind and it is as if I can actually
feel him thrusting inside of me. I wake up with a
head ache and in a complete emotional trance that
lingers on for most of the day.I am aware that victims of sexual abuse can have
repressed memories that resurface many years later.
I am not trying to jump to any conclusions but why
in the hell would I be having dreams that feel
completly real?

Andre
Dreams can warp our sense of reality. Perhaps as a child you saw your parents at an intimate moment and it scared you, or you saw him with a "pee hard-on" and it scared you. Or it could be something you read, saw on TV, etc.
I dreamnt my husband had me cut off his arms, even in the dream I felt awful. For about a week the memory of it gave me a bad feeling. Earlier I had seen a show on TV where people were selling their kidneys for money.
The actual dream was very far off from reality!

James here.....Are you a victim of abuse and is it possible this happened ? What are your thoughts on this ?
I realize this is the question you may be asking but I do not remember all of your history.
Given the considerable distress you have been going through it is reasonable to consider abuse as a possible cause. People do not try to kill themselves "just because", there is usually a reason. At the same time I am not saying that because you are ill dad did this to you. Do you have a theripist you can discuss this with ?James

> While writing this post I was finding word retrieval difficult (side effect of effexor) and I guess that I forgot to mention that although I was physically and emotionally abused by both of my parents I do not have any memories of sexual abuse.I am wondering if the dream I have is actually a repressed memory.

That is a tough question. There have been real cases of repressd memories surfacing as dreams, but like Kaarina said, there have also been cases where people have misinterpreted dreams and gone down the road of creating memories that weren't real. I think you should only explore this under the care of a professional who is highly competent in evaluating these things.

I agree if these dreams are becoming a mental torture you may consider a specialist.
I myself am going through the same thing, being mentally and most probably physically abused from an alcoholic crazy mother as a child .I honestly cannot remember much of my childhood/early teens just fantasies created in my head and since iv'e been sort of getting better i get flashbacks and unbelievable dreams but i myself do not want to remember or delve into someything that would mess me up.It may be denial but i just want to move forward and forget-ignorance could be bliss.dreamer

good point--some ADs cause vivid dreaming and/or nightmares.
This is the end of the thread.
