The most recent message on our guestbook at
http://www.undoingdepression.com is a negative one and I don't want to arbitrarily delete it for that reason. In the past I have only deleted duplicate messages or those that might be considered triggering.
On the other hand, it has nothing to do with depression and doesn't make much sense to me...but then again, it is about living well--or at least the messenger's idea of living well.
Sheesh. Can any of you tell me what you think about whether I should leave it in or take it off?
Thanks,
Robin

Buddy (quoted below) is obviously a gun NUT (ie. fanatic) who should be posting in WacKo Texas...
>" I've read the research and postings that Doctor O'Conner has done, I must remark.
I've never heard such rubbish in my life. The Accusations against guns and the theory of "living well" in order to have "happieness" is absolute nonsense. A person can live happily and not "live Well." And removing guns from the home is not essential to having a "safe home," Its almost like claiming that, "Pencils KILL people, we should rid the U.S. of pencils because some child could get depressed and stab them selves with a pencil." It doesn't make sense. Nor does the theory of banning guns. Whats that...If we out law boose, only out laws will have boose. the same goes for guns. I wish you a better knowledge and understanding of society than you already have, also intellegence and not ignorance. Sincerely,
>Allan Francom"

Robin - I am not a big fan of censorship. Most people reading that post will realize it for what it is. If you do delete it, it can be construed similar to drug companies only publishing positive clinical trials. It skews reality. Besides, if you delete it you may be asking for many more of these types of posts from this guy and his friends. Best to leave it and let people see it as the "uncontructive" criticism that it is.
This is just my opinion - Cam

Thanks guys
I can always count on you. But a big Uh-oh happened. First, I got another message taking the gun thing even further, so I went to the Manage section of the Guestbook and clicked the two messages to "Hidden," thinking that would save them like private messages. It seems I may have lost them, making my original question moot.
So here's hoping the two messengers don't come back and write more.
It just goes to show you...it's always something.
Well, anyway, today's our 28th anniversary so I'm not gonna let it bother me. Thanks again and G'night. Robin> Robin - I am not a big fan of censorship. > So here's hoping the two messengers don't come >back and write more.Unfortunately they or someone else did and followings is part of their posting/rant, which one would hope would be the last of this nonsense which has nothing to do with depression and every thing to do with psychosis and delusional thinking:

Comments: Somebody reposted a message from this bulletin board at another site, and one of the oh-so-helpful souls there replied:"Buddy (quoted below) is obviously a gun NUT (ie. fanatic) who should be posting in WacKo Texas..."
So the person who wrote that thinks it is okay for a rouge branch of a government to use military tanks to crash into a building occupied by mostly women and children, knocking concrete walls on their heads, crushing them to death (per coroners report) and to fill the building with poison, highly flamable gas, to bar firetrucks from the site at gun-point, AND to speak hatefully of those who died, many of whom were college grads, trying to live healthy lives, by >calling them WackO. ...
Sounds like a death threat, to me, for "dj" to call a person who advocates current laws a fanatic and to say they should go to Waco e.g. be burned to death. But that kind of hatred is allowed at some of these mental health sites, as long as the threat is directed at people who are supposed to be marginalized and hated for the >benefit of the mainstream.
Though my tone was a bit intemperate, it reflected somewhat but to a much lesser degree the original posters tone on UD, a site which has NOTHING to do with guns - go figure... But this recent response, partially excerpted above, is so out to lunch and such a distortion of anything I wrote that it only leaves me mouth agape, in pure wonder at such distortion.
Waco was a tragedy in many ways and it reflects some of the worse of excesses of society, on all fronts. But with people who reason like these posters running rampant with firearms I am only gladdened that I live in Canada where firearms are more tightly regulated, though we have our 'fringe' fanatics as well, who distort with their retorts and reactions. All societies do, however up above the U.S. border we believe in civilized law and order, and good government, generally and have laws that try to guarantee it.
Anway, enuff of that...
amen,
dj

Yikes, dj
Now I'm wondering how in the world they found your response on Babble--and so quickly. Nothing on my site would have directed them there. That's one to think about. It must be that they visit both sites.Well, we're not doing anything harmful--of course, the posters don't seem to see it that way. Luckily my dogs woke me at 7 a.m. and I saw the third message and was able to hide it.
And I might have to lock my Guestbook for the ten days we'll be away...unless I find someone willing to monitor and hide "those" messages.
About Canada...you're right in many ways. But there is also something special about being a USAmerican that is too complex for me to explain, and holds true for many of us despite all the problems and mistakes etc. (Maybe it's sort of the way you feel about family, and people can't help but take it personally when someone just ups and talks bad about their family.)
So, anyway, here's hoping our posters will have a happy day, and we all do too.
Robin

Hopefully they will go find some more relevant sites to focus on...
As for the U.S. vs. Canada. There are many good things about both countries and all countries. Canada has been judged to be the best country in the world by one of the U.N. agencies the past 3 or 4 years based on various parameters and Vancouver recently has been voted as supposedly the best country in the world by some other agency using whatever parameters they used - issues dealing with overall health of individuals, enviroment and economy, etc....Yet, there are lots of folks who would tell you otherwise and we do have the poorest neighbourhood in our country in our downtown area, along with some great mountain views and a generally nice climate. We all have our unique challenges, ups and downs, and reasons to love and hate our countries, cities, etc...
Have a great day yourself and a wonderful trip to California.
Sante!

Hi, Greg
How have you been? I hadn't been here for a while either, then got into some back and forth with Cam and DJ and some of the gang.
Dick and I are leaving for San Francisco on Monday March 5, then to Monterey for four days of conference, then back to San Francisco until the 14th.
We're looking forward to getting away and just planning and writing and sight-seeing and all.
Guess what? I really goofed. It was our 29th anniversary. Time went a little faster the last couple of years.
Take care,
Robin
