How much is too much, and organisation?

Posted by Rach on May 27, 2001, at 12:53:59

Im not sure I even have something specific to say or ask.

Just contemplating my options for the second half of the year & I'm just wondering how much is too much to take on, and how hard it will be to organise myself with different things going on. How do you gauge what will be too much to take on?

I always function better with a full schedule, but I never seem to know where that fine line is.

Try saying no to every second thing, the schedule will always fill up with other things.

This is difficult. Like you describe, I always feel more efficient when I'm busy, but at some point, busy becomes too busy, I start feeling very stressed and I crash. It's pretty impossible for me to control this at work. I am in a fee-for-services business so there is a real disincentive to turn work down. I've gotten alot better about scheduling too much outside of work. Many of my decisions are driven by the recollection of previous bad experiences. I find that I try to imagine accomplishing all that I want to, and how it will feel if I can't get to everything. Usually that helps me be more realistic about my expectations. Mair
