inappropriate laughter

Posted by sar on July 21, 2001, at 0:17:27

this has kind of been a topiv w/ me forever, but with klopoin and proxac in my system, much mote so.

when something strikes me as funny (and not much does) i laugh like craxy. much longer and harder than most people, and this symptom (of whatever)has seemed to increased with my med doubling & augmentation. Someone says something that *rationally* is slightly funn to me, and I dissolve into hard laughter for minues on end. Sometimes I excuse myself to the restroom, I find the excessive laughter so embarrassing.

Now given yass, this is much more preferrablethan crying at everything, but i'm trying to sanely hold onto a new job and new friends.ww what makes other people laugh for 30 seconds makes me guffaw for 5 minutes.

has anyone else experined this? i asm really curious.

thanks,
sar

HahahahahaHehehehehehe etc. ect,
Seriously though Sar I used to have this problem before meds I laughed the loudest and the longest used to rush to sink to splash head in cold water.
It's ok when people are used to it but strangers find it puzzling but laughing is infectious , I'd enjoy it and so will others ~eventually.

Could do with a giggling session myself.

Often I will do this as a defence, makes therapy weird but funny. In the real world often I will take one thing and find it hilarious while others just smile- but thats just my humour. Sometimes the funnyest things to me are abstraction and timing. - I sometimes find channel flicking V.funny. If it is just that you have a different sense of humour than others then so be it. Its nothing to get embarrased about.

It's not as bad as telling yourself a joke in your head and then laughing about it for a few minutes straight... then people -really- look at you strange... My sister and I are like that, we are a bit manic when it comes to some humor, and we maybe find way more humor in something that other people think is just stupid... I think at dinner one time I made her laugh so hard she fell out of her chair... My father/stepmother dispise us for it but they can kindly piss off!

Don't be 'embarased' about anything you do, unless you are running around with a lampshade on your head... It can't be half as bad as being caught on film w/ your pants down at a bar you freequent (been there)... so keep on smiling, as you say, it's better than cryin'.

Why are people so intimidated by it even though it makes us feel good?

Kinda like sex I guess?

Kid_A, how I empathize with your bar story! i've never done anything that extreme, never done anything with a lampshade, but I've lost 2 pairs of shoes, scarred my legs up from falling, caused scenes at parties, have been carried out of bars etc.

Willow...I don't know. maybe they feel like their sense of humor just isn't as good? Maybe they think you're laughing at them? I don't know how weird it really is. i remember as a kid, biting the insides of my cheeks to prevent the laughter...now even that doesn't work! i have to run off and think of something terribly sad.

the klonopin has made it even more pronounced.

at least it keeps me in better spirits...

love from the Mad Laugher,
sar

I think we might have been sepperated at birth, right now I am nursing a hairline fractured (maybe, I havent gotten it x-rayed) foot, from jumping out of an elevated dj booth onto a concrete floor from the top of a tall ladder... Ouch... Its been two weeks and it still hurts to walk on it... Well.. you only live once, (unless you get reincarnated) might as well live dangerously...
