For some reason, Yahoo groups registration can be daunting. There's nothing to it, really; it's just like registering for PB, except your browser has to be configured to accept cookies. The difficulty (unless you're like me and make lotz of typOz when you don't use a spell-chekker) is that sometimes Yahoo's server is busy, so it takes a few minutes or longer to get your registration confirmation. Then you have to respond, and maybe log in again, and click into the part of the site - chat - that you want to visit. The routine goes like this:
Go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-openClick on: "Join this group" or, if you're not already registered with a Yahoo name or want a Yahoo member name for this group only (privacy) click on "register." Both are just to the right of the banner at the top of the page. If you are already registered and a member of PB open, then click on "sign in."
Once you are registered, joined up and signed in, click on "chat" which is on the left side of the page, in the box, under "home" and "messages." The chat page should come up, and it seems to load quickly now; Yahoo must have found a new chat Java. The box to the right of the chat screen should have your Yahoo name in it and the name of anybody else who is logged into chat. The text box under the chat window is where you type your comments, and when you enter them, they appear in the big chat box in the middle. If a lot of people are there, it goes quickly, but you can scroll back if you miss anything. Most chat conversation involves short comments, usually no longer than a sentence or two. Ppl use lts of brev's on chat boards, too. Saves space. :-)
I encourage you to try it. When you get it down, you can IM (individual message) other chatters, or Ignore people who might be civil but you just don't like their tone. Be nice though, nobody likes to be left out in the cold. ; ) Once you make a test run to be sure you are properly registered, post here a time and date for a proposed chat session. Evenings or weekends are usually the best bet.
You seem like you would make a great chat host, Willow. Here on PSB, you make lots of casual posts that serve to maintain a conversational atmosphere. Me, I would probably do better at organizing a community gathering that others would lead, at instigating a demonstration or at making shy people feel that it is okay to speak up with unpopular ideas.
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say hello. You're on you're own from here...

I love your name. (Wish I could have thought of something creative like it!) I'm going to do my chores now and as a reward I'll log on. Others do so too please, and then we can try it say 9:30 est time or what would be a good time considering all the time zones???

Willow:
I'm so confused about your time zone - is it the same as NY's? Or are you on the West Coast in Canada, the same as California time? I am very ignornant about Canada's time zones, and if they are the same as ours...

Things are seldom as easy as they might seem.
Here are some sites that might help. If a person posts a future time in Greenwich Mean Time, anybody in the world who knows their local time zone (and who can read, surf the web and understand simple charts) could extrapolate the corresponding local time from these resources. Or if the person does not mind saying where they are, they can post, for example Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific time in the U.S. and others can use these sites to calculate local time.
http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc
9:30 p.m. EST (21:30) Aug. 13 is 1:30 a.m. Aug. 14, GMT (01:30 Greenwich Mean Time).
To convert military time to a 12 hour format, simply subtract 12 from any time after 13:00 (13:00 - 12 = 1 p.m.; 23:00 - 12 = 11 p.m.)

Don't you ever migrate? I'm north of you. If you find Ottawa on a map there is a large river going north-west, I'm not far off the more westerly part of it. So I guess we are in the same time zone. It's almost three here.

I didn't realize you were in Ottawa, silly. I would have at least known that was north. Maybe.
It's 3:25 here so I think we 'er the same.
My guess is you had said you were in Ottawa before and I forgot. That is partly what Prozac has done for me. :(

I'm about five hours west of Ottawa, but figured you wouldn't know where Callander is. Yeah we're in the same time zone I checked Pennie's link.
We'll see how many people we get and set up a day and time for a chat. Are you interested?

So Monday night is not good for you Kid? Would the afternoon be better? Early evening not good for me unless I get a sitter. If I know in advance I can do that. I could get the children settled around 7pm watching tv and bedtime routine but it is a gamble sometimes they start battling.

I've been able to log-in or sign up under the name whisperingwillowca. That wasn't too difficult, but I can't find the chat for psycho-babble open. I thought I would do a dry run. Not much luck so far.

Was everyone able to navigate to the psycho-babble open chat?

Sorry, my laptop ran out of juice, though it should go far longer than it did and I had to go inside where I was bombarded with "Wondered where you were."
Should give it another try, though.
