politesse?

Posted by sar on August 19, 2001, at 1:09:37

today i breezed into work (on time) in a skimpy tanktop and flipflops (a no-no). i did have a backpack with me with a change of clothes, but now i can't even remember if i changed right there in the middle of the breakroom or if i had the sense to go to the restroom. my supervisors, managers, and one customer said that i seemd "out of it." i'd drunk all night and had some morning drinks to cure the headache--i wasn't really drunk, but apparently (according to my family when i got home) i smelled horrible (like beer, vodka, etc).

i'm wondering why they didn't ask me if i was drunk? why so polite--"you seem out of it--do you want to go home?--sleep it off." is that politeness? it actually makes me feel much more embarrassed, but maybe that was their goal. i regret arriving to work stinking like that, but my cheeks are red now--how embarrassing--can i be fired over this? i like this job. why are people so polite? "out of it" instead of "you seem to be stinking drunk"?

ramble ramble. i don't expect any answers on this one folks, i was clearly in the wrong, but if you've got an opinion do share...

I guess I'm not so proper, because I'm going to ask how old you are? Have you tried any addiction programs? There's actually meds out their that if you drink alcohol on them they'll make you so sick that you won't drink.

I'm concerned that if you wait long enough to curb your drinking you may have harmed yourself already.

Willow,

i am 23. i already know the drinking is a major problem. i've lost my car, some friends, lots of credibility, and now possibly my job. i think i'm on the "final written warning" now.

i've been to AA a few times but didn't like it. i've heard that antabuse is good, but i'm not ready to swear off drinking completely. i just want moderation. i didn't even know how stinking drunk i was until i was sent home. DON'T DRINK BEFORE WORK. what a good policy i know, but my head gets all mized up with rationalization and then it's too late...

thanks willow,
sar
