Dear SLS:

I want to thank you so much for putting up your site.

As a native New Yorker now living in Connecticut, I was extremely moved by the photos, many of which I've not seen before.

I remember the many times I've been to the WTC, way-back-when in the mid-1970s and 1980s, a time when the "unthinkable" was just that.

I have so many fond memories of that entire area and it is now that I feel the loss ... and it hurts badly.

I'm happy to know that your Pa made it out alive, but I wouldn't blame him for never stepping into a building again.

It only took one airplane crash for me never to fly again.

I don't even know if I can ever go to the City anymore ... most of my family still live there ... it's just not the same.

A horrible deed from horrible people ... but God sees everything.

Though the Phoenix may rise once again from the ashes of this destruction, the poor souls who perished never will.

Scott - Thank you for the website. Like kazoo, I had not seen many of those pictures. I have never seen any pictures of the tops of the towers before. Strangely, the hardest ones to look at were the pictures of the lobby. - Jane

Hi Scott,

Those pictures are awesome. Were any of them taken by you? Are they from one source, (did I miss that on your site?) . Did you find them on a website(s) or have you been collecting pictures of New York? (well, you'd figure I'd be interested in the photography, of course).

I found all of the pictures on the Internet. Most of them were from news sources like CNN, MSNBC, USAToday, New York Times, Washington Post, etc. Believe it or not, some of the best photos came from newspaper sites in places like Delaware, Seattle, and London. If I can remember more, I'll get back to you. In the meantime, if you come across any other websites with quality pictures, I'd be grateful for the URLs. I would really like to archive them. At some point, these pictures will disappear from the Net, so I'm trying scarf them up while they are still available. I used to be a pretty decent novice photographer in my twenty's. I can't draw worth beans, so I had to learn how to paint with ISO 200.

I had to retouch a great percentage of the images because I enlarged most. I used Paint Shop Pro, an older version that was available as shareware. Newer versions are available, but Jasc wants a hundred dollars or so. It is not rated very high compared to some of the other ones you can find for comparable money. PhotoShop is usually considered to be the best image editing software.

As far as the page itself is concerned, you wouldn't believe how rudimentary my knowledge is of the HTML language. There is no way I could learn much more because of how immensely difficult reading is for me. There are a bunch of books out there. I have had to get good at squeezing a lot out of a little.

How's DreamWeaver?

That's okay, I was just curious. Newspapers really in general have great pictures; it's just hard to appreciate them on newsprint.

Okay, though I would probably do the the searches you did. I really liked the way you put them together, anyway.

I have Photoshop. It's wonderful, but I've never really used anything else to compare. I have had a lot of fun playing with it for the last couple of years . Next year, I will move from printing by hand to primarily printing though photoshop and a new software system, which basically adds the equivilent output of close to 4000 dpi off a regular Epson printer.

Well for about that level of knowledge I paid close to $500 for someone to write my code. And that included code only; no design. I actually layed out my website in photoshop. So I think you are underestimating your skills. The guy who did mine wasn't working for a anyone else (this was a side thing he does), or it would have cost me much much more.

I never figured it out. I made a mistake in buying it. First, I really didn't have the time to learn it. I really wanted my website up. Second, I think, for me, it is much easier to start from scratch and I would have done better to learn HTML directly. I think it is harder to learn packages in some ways than languages, because modifiying someone else's code is much harder than designing your own. I think I might have an older version of photoshop (4.0) if you have a MAC. Let me know. The only thing with photoshop is it takes a ton of memory, especially when using high resolution.

Thanks. Coming from you, it's like winning an Oscar! :-)

I did find a few more images, which I'm going to archive for posterity's sake. I managed to squeeze most of them on my size-limited site.

Your MAC can emulate MS Windows, right? I've got a few time-savers I can steer you towards. If you are interested, you know where to find me. ;-)

Oh, Scott, I didn't know how close to it you were. I am glad your Dad is ok. Your website is very moving. The narrative is riveting and the photos are striking. Thanks.
