I am looking for something completely soundproof which one can scream into (for a form of primal scream therapy). The apartment walls are extremely thin and I don't own a car:)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shelley,
Well, a couple of things come to mind:
1. get out of town -- go someplace rural. No one will care.
2. try a large city park, though you might get some visitors afterwards. :-)
3. If you live in a big city, go to a rooftop and scream upward.
4. Build yourself an anechoic chamber. This isn't too difficult, but it is tedious and if you don't have a ready supply of foam rubber, it could get expensive. Basically, you first build a box; it could be cardboard or plywood or anything else. It has to be big enough to stand in, with any sort of door. Next, you cut pyramids of foam rubber with a roughly 4-inch-on-a-side square base and about 5-6 inches tall. Glue these onto the inside of your box on all surfaces, tightly packed, with the points facing inwards. An alternate to a box is the inside of a closet. You can yell into this to your heart's content without disturbing anyone. I have been inside these anechoic chambers and they are spooky -- they are super quiet even when talking loud, and if the foam is painted black, there are no light reflections either -- total sensory deprivation.
