Stress can be bad, but family-related stress is the worse. HA!
Had a nice X-mas, nice in-between, even went out with my sister and her family to skate in the wilderness (on a river). Then Jan 1st at my mother's house, for New Year's celebration: my brother-in-law behaves like an *** (word of your choice). He ruined many of my birthdays, many X-mas's, and now, he apparently could not just leave it alone: ruined New Year's Day for everybody. Why start the year on a good not, huh? He has fits like a 5 years old and we are supposed to make him confortable - he's a man, he's supposed to dominate, we comply. HA! I was beating him at a trivia game and he could not stand it. His daughter told him to relax, it's just a game, and BAM! Angry like there is no tomorrow, treated us like crap for the rest of the day, AND even kicked my mother's furniture at some point. I made a point not to say anything in order not to aggravate things, but I was boiling inside. Yes, I can be angry on Effexor XR - had not experienced it yet. Anyway, last night I barely slept, I was so angry at him.
Sorry for sharing this sordid experience, but man, I am sooooo happy the hollidays are over ! Don't have to see them for a loooong while. And won't !

Your brother-in-law and my mom's husband should meet -- all I did was ask him to quit using an (annoying) phrase. I got five days of incredible rudeness. And I think you hit the heart of the matter -- both of these men are wanting to dominate and neither you nor I allowed them to do so. And instead of being a grown-up, they have to act like petulant children and ruin what is a good time for everyone else. I don't know for you, but it really brought up some stuff from the childhood days. I'm sorry for both of us that we had to experience this.

I do, and I can't understand why she is with him still. She does not seem to realize that his behavior is a problem. He has done much worse in the past - things I would ask for a divorce immediately for, yet, my sister does not react. It's like she's been numbed by him. I am terribly afraid to fall in love, no wonder. Afraid to lose myself. Anyway... I need to find other good examples around me. There has to be some! And as for my sister, well it's her battle, not mine. She seems to be fine with him though. I don't understand and won't try to... got my own battles to fight.
