hey all,
i haven't been able to get to a computer for awhile and just wanted to say *bonjour mes amis*! :) there are some interesting threads i'm missing out on...i recently moved to a new city, and when i inquired about free psychiatric care, the woman on the telephone asked if i'm on probation or parole. i told her that i'm on probation for 2 years for DWI. she said that i'd have to get a special probationer, a "mental health probationer" or somesuch, and i'm wondering what the hell this means; does it mean they'll be working together to monitor me more closley? would it be unkosher to just go on with my regular PO and not tell the mental health services i'm on probation?
this makes my head a mess. i've never been good with authority and resent having to check in with a PO once a month, esp if (s)he is working with some sort of counselor who monitors my activities.
i would have to LIE and waste alot of time.. i suppose i could do it, but i don't want to.
does anyone else have experience with this?
best wishes to you all, hope you are having a wonderful january, and i hope to catch up with the lot of you sometime soon.
love,
yr ole poster sar

> Hi Sar - we've all missed you. Is it possible that the woman you spoke with is under the impression that counselling is a condition of your probation? Also did you have to switch POs when you moved back to Austin?

Hey Sar
Gees I'm trying to figure how to say this? In my region we have a mental health law advocate. I'm not sure of the definite title. What this person does is help people with mental health illnesses when they come in contact with the law.
Even though you are on probation I do think you still have the right to ask what the difference between the two types of probation officers are, then you will be able to make help with the decision.

adoringly got to a computer in short time...
i think i can get around this. there's no reason to tell the PO or the pdoc that i'm doing whatevah/whatevah. i'm not driving or shooting heroin or innything, just enjoying a few too many beers. haven't driben a car in more than 5 months.
the systems here seem to be pretty overflowing and blind...too many more law-breakers than there are police, by x to the nth! i just don't want to bow down to them. it would dispappoint me very much if i were required to see a probationer and pdoc who worked in conjunction with one another--my crime is DWI; my official diagnosis is up i the air, but Severe Depresio and Severe Anxiety seem to be written in stone.
thank you for your concern and responses! i 'preciate it...i will update sometime soon...
love,
sar

Yea! A post from sar!!!
I don't have any experience with this, but try to do what is the most comfortable for you. I personally would keep on with your regular PO. Mental health consultations should be private/confidential. The other option would make me wary too.
How else are you my dear???
