really losing hope (and my mind) now...

Yesteday I collapsed in a lecture and had to be rushed to the local hospital with more complications following my blood clots. They have also found liver damage. I don't know if I'm coming or going at the moment and I'm really starting to understand why people want to kill themselves...

ELA:

I have no experience with bodily illness except cervical cancer. That was very stressful but was resolved within a few months.

I just want to say, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. A counselor or psychiatrist may be your best bet right now - please look into that. :)

ELA, forget about college now - forget about all the sundry worries that accompany simple, normal life, there's enough worries for me to just get well.

I'd suggest concentrating all your energy & focus on your health & enlist parents, siblings, friends, to help too. I know as a parent for my sons, & for friends before, I've thrown myself in with a determination to track down a cause for things before & made it my cause till they were better. Surely your parents & friends would feel likewise. College can always wait till you're COMPLETELY better.

What happened & why did it happen? Do the doctors know what's causing these things to happen? Why liver damage too? Please let us know & don't give up!!!!

Us 'older' folks have a bit of a different perspective on things. I'm with IsoM - college can wait. Take care of yourself first and the rest will fall into place. I rushed through college - likely before you were born! - in a hurry to get on with life. As a result, I think I missed a lot of life. What I am doing now, and have done for twenty five years, would not be my first choice now. Hindsight.
There's something to be said for slowing down and letting things fall into place. Maybe this health issue is a reminder not to rush yourself.

It is a shock and frightening beyond description to discover that you are seriously ill. As I understand it, you will probably go through the grief process - I don't remember the order or all the specific stages but they include anger and bargaining (usually with God),with the last stage being acceptance.

I would put all other concerns aside and concentrate on finding out as much about your condition as you can. Teach yourself so that you can make educated decisions. Find out the things you can do to improve your chances, including homeopathic remedies. I DO NOT advise ignoring professional medical advice, but it does appear that alternative practices may be used in addition to tradional Western medicine, such as acupuncture or hypnotherapy to relieve pain. I would advise counseling in any case in order to help you deal with the stress.

My prayers are with you-
Gracie

Oh ELA, I am sorry!

I know your GP is hopeless, but do you have a hospital doctor who will communicate with you honestly and fully?

I would agree with the others re looking after yourself as first priority- college can wait; you have the best possible reason which no-one could dispute for taking time off. You can take it up again later.

Did you ever get round to seeing a counsellor at college (or outside- or therapist or whatever)? Would highly recommend it as support till you get over this crisis- your reaction could be an entirely normal one to such a crisis, but that doesnt make it easier to handle. The hospital doctors could also refer you to a psychologist, if you want to ask them (I appreciate you may not).

*If* there is some element of depression and you need it (and its OK with the liver problems), there are also meds which make a huge difference.

The clots problems have been serious and dramatic, of course, but havent caused anything unreversible physically, from what you have mentioned. So this is a horrible time, but one which should pass.

Please hang on in there, and look after yourself. And use any support which is going- you deserve it!

Fi
