duuuh, lurnin' iz good

Posted by pedr on February 7, 2002, at 8:20:33

Hi there,
I'm attempting to find out more about the brain and depression. This is solely so that I can argue more verbosely with my shrink :-) Not really.

I don't really know where to start though. I need material that assumes little/no knowledge of this area and covers blood/brain barrier, enzymes, inhibitors, antagonists, metabolites and that sort of stuff. This probably isn't available in one place so I guess I'll need intro/beginner material and then further material.

Suggestions for web resources/books/microfilm/whatever on this kind of stuff would be most appreciated.

Hope people are doing ok today,
Adios amigos!
pete.

I wish I could help you, pedr. I love to read about depression and anxiety and such and I have a voluminous library on the subject of mental health. But when I hear blood/brain barrier and metabolites, my brain just freezes over. Same thing when I hear about ego and oedipus complex. Some things I just can't wrap my mind around.
Have you tried internet searches?

Yeah, I came up with http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~lwh/drugs/
which is good to start with but then ventures off into pretty obscure behavioural experiments and stuff.
I know what you mean about it being difficult to grasp. Especially when you're feeling low and your brain is foggy from depression&drugs :-[
Best wishes,
pete
