Is anyone a parent in treatment for mental illness and have a child in treatment as well? I'm 33 years old and am on medication for anxiety/depression. My ten year old daughter goes to a different pdoc and therapist than I do, but she is on medication for anxiety/depression as well. She likes the fact that I have the same issues, although mine are much better controlled than hers are. She asks me for advice on dealing with anxiety/depression, but I cannot help her because the only thing that has ever helped me is medication. I feel like I should be able to help her with her problems because I am her parent, but I can't. My dad had depression (he committed when I was 14) and his dad did too. I feel so terrible for passing this on to her. Any words of wisdom for me with dealing with this situation?
