Can anyone recommend any good movies?

Posted by bookgurl99 on July 4, 2002, at 1:15:41

My partner and I were gonna go see Men In Black 2 tonight, but I could tell she really wanted to see Minority Report, so we went there at the last minute.

Minority Report: great plot, great acting: mistake if you are really sensitive about violence. Can you imagine two women watching this film together? We held hands and our palms got sweaty at the same time! She wanted me to hold her in the scary scenes when I wanted her to hold me! But seriously, I really had to decompress from it -- I'm watching the Mickey Mouse Club before sleep! -- it got my adrenalin pumping so.

Scooby Doo: good escapism, if you don't mind a kid's movie and convoluted plot. bonus! Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) is in it, and he talks!

I'd like to see The New Guy, and maybe the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

(Have I mentioned that my motivation for all this is that I have no air conditioning?)

The Sum Of All Fears is really an excellent movie but has its fair share of violence in it. It also has some really good off the cuff humor in it. I really liked it.

"Lilo & Stich" was great. I took the kiddos to it and ended up liking it myself. Very funny movie!

Really? My GF (from hawaii) complained that she thought that the posters were 'racist' because the little girl didn't seem as cute as other Disney girls. I said that the girl seemed cute, just 'real.'

I might try to drag her into that and Blue Crush this summer.

"About a Boy" is a really good film with a terrific soundtrack. It's not just another Hugh Grant "Feel Good" movie, it's funny and poignant especially for those who are depressed and feel like they are trudging through life.

I'm not a great fan of Hugh Grant films apart from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" but this was suprisingly good. It's based on a book by Nick Hornsby "High Fidelity" writer.
