Hi
I have rather long history of p meds. I started a new school about one and a half year ago, in a new location and new country. The problem is that I canīt get myself to do any homework, I donīt go to school because I donīt want to. Iīm very interrested in what iīm studying but I have no energy to do that. The reason I donīt go to school is social phobia so I canīt get any new friends. I first started my university studies back at home and there I achieved very high results and was always(well, almost..) attending at school, I had friends back there, old friends, so itīs was fun to go to school. I switched university because it has more to offer particulary in electrical engineering, which is what I read. Now Iīm desperately seeking advices from doctors and now from you, what shall I do?
I currently take 15 mg Remeron for depression and about 3 mg Clonazepam for social phobia. Anyone, suggestions please..
(And no, iīm not going back to my old school, it can only offer me bachelorīs degree, in this school iīll get a masterīs degree, which is more theoretical, and thatīs what iīm interrested in.)
thanks for your time,
tensor

No motivation?
Tell me about it!I personally think that Paxil is good for depression and anxiety. Remeron just put me to sleep. My therapist hates Remeron for people in school. It really knocks the motivation right out of you.
I also have major problems getting out and being around people. It took getting on the right meds for me to be able to force myself out of my room. It sounds like you really need to work on the meds. I have gotten to the point where I can sometimes. Once i get out there i am usually ok. it is just getting out there that is hard. I don't kinow anything about Clonazepam. I am on 4 mg of Gabitril to help with anxiety. it is a newer med, an antiseizure med that is up for official approval to help with anxiety. i think the usual dose for anxiety is btw 2 and 8 mg. I also take a little (.5 mg) Risperdal for obsessive thinking and clarity of thought. it makes it easier to focus. my pdoc's strategy is to try a little of this/little if that to get the right combination. i am very thankful for that attitude.
It sounds like a lot has change for you. just focus on getting to class, first. ( and, GET OFF THE REMERON! Sorry. that stuff can make you so tired. i hope you are taking it at night, at least, although it has a long half life so it stays in your system a long time.) then you can start to talk to people about school. study with people, then gradually talk about other stuff. this is the only thing that has worked for me. are you rooming by yourself? i found it better to room with somebody, even if they bother me, having somebody there makes it easier to go out. you don't have to be great friends or hang out all the time. I just put a notice saying i needed a roommate on a board in my student union building. i got a pretty neat roommate that way, and didn't even know them before hand. just make sure you have your own bedroom to retreat to if needed. feel free to write back. let me know how it goes.

Hi,
thanks for your reply. you said a lot interresting things, first, Remeron was the med that finally helped my depression after testing several SSRIs, it was a very activating med, like a kick in the butt. But Iīve always had problems with my motivation, so you say it might be remeron that causes this, i gotta talk to my doc about this. Itīs funny you mention Paxil because Iīve wondered maybe that would be an better option.
Yes, I do take remeron at night, 15 mg. Itīs a pain swithing meds, first youīll have to reach your doc via phone, then set up an appointment and when you finally gets the meds it will take several weeks in addition for the meds to start working.
Youīre right about things has to change, now. Because this wonīt hold much longer, if I canīt study I wonīt make it. Itīs so difficult to get to class, I dare not take contact with people, so as it is right now I do the studies at home. But with no motivation.. I do live with a friend in a flat and each of us has our own bedrooms, I know him well so that is not a problem.
Itīs really annoying when you actually want to study but donīt have the energy to even open a book. Iīm gonna call my pdoc tomorrow and tell her about my situation(which I should have done before) and hopefully come up with another solution. I will let you know.

------------------------One of the rare triumphs I've had with medications was adrafinil. One of my major problems has always been low energy, and a cloudy, sluggish mind. I'd find myself yawning a dozen times at work, unable to concentrate, and frustrated. It made sense to me to try a stimulant, but I didn't want anything too activating, because I tend to get "shaky" and nervous. Anyway, I'd read about some other babblers who'd had success with this drug (and it's metabolite, Modafinil/Provigil).
After about 10 days on it, things began to change. I haven't yawned once at work in the last few weeks, and I find myself able to do physical activities without feeling so run down. It's a very subtle drug, too. The only side effect I've noticed is that my urine is quite pungent (others said the same). I'm only taking 600mg a day, in the morning. Others seemed to take double that.
This is the end of the thread.
