Dr. Seuss Explains Computer Crashes

Posted by IsoM on October 24, 2002, at 14:18:06

With all the horrific things happening out in the world & often inside our heads, if I don't get something to laugh at, I go crazy in a not very nice way. While still aware that life is not so sweet, I wanted to share some computer humour sent by friend.

Dr. Seuss Explains Computer Crashes (to be read aloud)

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted cause the system doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash.

If the label on the cable on the table at your house says the network is connected to the button on your house, but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall.

And your screen is all distorted by the side-effects of gauss, so the icons in your window are as wavey as a souse, then you may as well just reboot and go out with a bang, 'cuz sure as I'm a poet, that sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk and the macrocode instructions cause unnecessary risk then you'll have to flash the memory and then you'll ram your ROM...quickly turn off the computer..(but be sure to tell your mom!)

I do an assignment that requires students to write in the style of a famous author. This is one of my examples. I've been using it for about six years!

The Lord is my external-internal integrative mechanism, I shall not be deprived of gratification for my viscerogenic hungers or my need-dispositions.

He motivates me to orient myself toward a non-social object with affective significance, He positions me in a non-decisional situation, He maximizes my adjustment.

Although I entertain masochistic and self-destructive id impulses, I will maintain contact with reality, for my superego is dominant.

His analysis and tranquilizers, they comfort me. He assists in the resolution of my internal conflicts despite my Oedipal problem and psychopathic compulsions. He promotes my group identification.

My personality is totally integrated. Surely my prestige and status shall be enhanced as a direct function of time, And I shall remain sociologically, psychologically and economically secure forever.

Hi. My name is Liming. I'm a teenager. I've been diagnosed with clinical recurring bipolar depression... well those are the words I heard. Anyway, I would like to know about blackouts. If any of you have had blackouts and would like to share stories, that would be great. I hav had episodes where I have woken up (from what I thought was a nap) and haven't remebered a thing. However, my friends all ahve stories about how I've tried to walk into the fire and onigh my boyfriend said that he had to physically hold me down so that I wouldn't scratch an tear at myself. I don't remember a thing, but have raised scratches on my arms and neck and they are red where he must have held me. I don't drink which is odd (not that I don't drik, bu that I've only ever heard of people blacking out when drunk). It's quite unnerving and a bit scary. Please reply ASAP, I would be much appreciative.
Thank you.
Liming

Hi Liming--

Welcome to Psychobabble! I suspect that you meant to post your message as a new thread on the main (medication-related) board; you might get more replies there.

What you described as "blackouts" sound like seizures to me. The changing hormone levels which teens experience can act as a trigger (they did in my son). I urge you to check this out with your doctor ASAP. Your post was very clear; taking a copy of it for your doc might be helpful. If s/he agrees, you could ask for a referral to a neurologist who specializes in seizure disorders.

Please don't delay getting medical advice for this, and please don't drive until then! Many of the meds which control seizures also treat bipolar symptoms, but it's important to select the right amount of the right med which works best for you. There are many available, so expert advice is critical.

Good luck--and keep us posted on your progress!---medlib
