I posted awhile back about being called for jury duty. I was concerned about that because of the psychiatric problems I've been having over the last few years. I decided not to bring it up unless it was absolutely positively necessary.
After hanging around the assembly room all day with 300 other jurors I was finally called for a trial. And what did this trial concern? Whether to involuntarily commit a man to a secure pyschiatric facility.
I just couldn't believe it. Out of all the trials going on in this huge building, this is the trial
I get called for. Cosmic joke.
I think I handled it pretty well though. During voire dire I raised my hand and asked to approach the bench. So then I get in a huddle with the lawyers, the judge and the court reporter and I say, "I've been involuntarily committed a couple of times myself, is that relevant?" The looks on their faces was priceless.
I honestly had to think really really hard about whether to admit this, not because of embarrassment, but because the guy was a pedophile. I think this is the lowest life form on earth and I would have voted to put the guy away for eternity, if we couldn't actually set him on fire. But I did the right thing.
Cripes.

I would loved to have seen the looks on their faces. Too bad you couldn't snap a picture of it. Rather ironic, wasn't it?

Oh, dear- what a coincidence!! So what happened? Did you stay for the trial? Did the judge let you off that jury, and put an alternate in your place? Was the pedophile guilty or not?
Have a good evening... MAL

No, the lawyers didn't want me anywhere near their jury box, especially when I admitted to being on psychaitric medication.
I guess I could have gone back and watched the trial as a spectator, just to see how it turned out, but a couple of days in the Courts Building was enough for me.
