It got 1 1/2 star, but I love it. It's set on the Davers State Hospital in Danvers, MA. Oddly, I happened to read up on this hospital a few weeks ago on the 'net, and now happened to catch this movie on TV.
It's playing again on January 14 (or 16?) on Starz.
It's a great movie. It's a horror film set in an abandoned mental hospital, and we'll all appreciate the tidbits of dialogue about mental health history (good book to read- Mad in America).

> It's a great movie.
------------As a movie, it started out somewhat promising, but proceeded to devolve into silliness. Is that how lobotomy patients really behave? How did the session tapes even play into any of the story? Does the state always cut cheap deals for asbestos removal on the sly, without bidding? So many questions.
It was at least worth the time to hear the cool "DO IT!" voice in that guy's head. Sort of a Nike sponsored mental illness.

I got freaked just from the trailer! Yucky goose bumps...
Thanks a lot!Eddie- thanks for your critique. I hope you're happy to have ruined it for the rest of us! (Onion readers appreciate sarcasm, methinks!)
I like being scared but if the direction and casting and plot etc. annoy or frustrate me then I can't deal. Ah, give me The Shining...
Altho the "asylum" element might freak me out just enough...
Regardless, thanks for the heads up, Utopizen! And to all a creepy night.

Hey, for a film by USA Films, it seemed rather artistic. =)
Plus, that doctor's voice on the tape is right on the money. If only they used the doctor's voice more, like actually did a scene flashback with the doctor shown and all that. But then again, that would take away from the Blair Witch inspiration... sigh.
Anyway, it's interesting to me because I had thought of going to the Danvers hospital myself. Check out 1856.org, guys. Interesting historical project of a grad student's thesis of another Mass. hospital.
Apparently, there's sites on the net devoted to exploring places like mental hospitals without permission... something about it draws me to it. I guess I'm a history buff. My history teacher in middle school relayed going into an abandoned factory mill once... heh- I think it's in all history types.
But few movies have the claim that after seeing it, you'll never look at your corneas in the same way again. lol
This is the end of the thread.
